Ruminations:
Who else has the Indiana Jones theme running through their head right now? The correct answer is all of you. This is one of the last episodes Amy Keating Rogers wrote before moving on to Disney, so I am expecting super awesome. We don't really get to see Pipsqueak much, and the Crusaders have to help Diamond Tiara?! This episode should prove interesting! Turn the page when you hear the bullwhip crack like this... *whipcrack!*

I was wondering where this thread was. Also, I'm glad an episode about any sort of election is in an off year in the US!

You're not the only one, Chem!
This episode made my week.
I wondered just what made Diamond Tiara what she was. Her mother is... well, I think Celestia should send her to Tartarus for filly abuse!
We finally found out there's more to her than a bully. And we found out there's a good heart in there. I wanted to just hug her when her mother was so mean to her.
I applauded Apple Bloom for doing the right thing, even when it was hard. Sweetie and Scoots did it too. That they offered the olive branch when vengeance might've felt sweet... that proves they have learned very well from their sisters and their experiences. They had to let go of fighting for their cutie marks and that's how they ultimately earned them.
The deaths of the Apple parents are confirmed and I'm glad that was allowed to air.
This was an amazing episode.

Seems a fitting episode for us, after 30 years, to finally learn the origin of cutie marks in general too.

As cliche as my reaction may have seemed, I found my jaw agape and dropping ever wider when a certain character "stood up" for what was right and effectively told someone else to "get stuffed" (my phrasing, not a line in the show).

Were there at least 4 or 5 songs in this one? It was a full blown operetta!

Certainly an episode with these kind of "resolutions" may lead some to wonder if the showrunners are "wrapping up" the series.

Sincerely,

Bill

We're getting a full 26 episode season 6 (with about 6 of them finished already) and given the time frame, likely a season 7 that will end just short of the release of the 2017 movie.

Plus said movie, EQG 4 and Legend of Everfree, don't count on them closing up shop yet.

Or they're expanding the series a bit. They've set up a TNG sort of thing, I think...

What a fantastic episode! I can't say anything about anything, because anything would give it away. Spoilers below:

THE CUTIE MARK CRUSADERS FINALLY GOT THEIR CUTIE MARKS! IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED!

Like Chemy and Peach, I actually cried.
This episode gets an easy "A".

I'm personally amazed they also touched on one very big issue...
They actually touched on child abuse. Diamond Tiara's tormenter is a parent. That is huge! What if they come back to that? She's being emotionally abused by her mother and her mother acted in front of a crowd. Her father disciplined her once in front of the crowd and reasonably, but her mother has clearly been engaging in emotional abuse for some time. She's a frightened little filly and has lashed out at the world because of it.

I was going to wait until the excitement died down, but yes, that was a serious issue that they presented, and it showed where Diamond Tiara got much of her personality. We've always seen Rich as generally nice and polite to everyone, but this is the first time we saw Tiara's mother, and she seems to be a bad pony.

It appears she is the source of the "blank flanks" judgment against the CMC, and that Tiara always wanted to be just a regular pony. I could only imagine having that kind of parent pressing down hard to make a child believe they have to be cruel in order to dominate others. Plus, Tiara always seemed to be a Daddy's Girl, which is why deep down she didn't want to be hateful, I think, because as we've seen, Rich is not hateful. Hell, his best customers are the Apples, and he seems to like Granny quite a bit!

I think the general notion that Silver Spoon went along with it because she was Tiara's friend won out, too.

I think they did very well with the 22 minutes they had, and it was nice to see Silver Spoon finally stand up and finally tell Tiara that she didn't have to take her crap, which is what really started the cracking in Tiara's facade.

So what looked like another scheming Tiara episode turned out to be not only a boon for the CMC, but the start of Tiara's redemption as well.

Also, I loved the Crusaders' cutie marks! They have the same basic shield, showing that they will always work together as crusaders, and then their individual marks, which were no surprise to most of us.

I'm not so sure.

It looks like her mother was born into, or married into money. Her father looks to be the one making all the money, and ended up marrying a gold digger.

Rebecca Dart, who designed her, said she'd had "work done" so we know she wasn't too pretty before and has been spending that money on "improvements".

But I don't think she had any real say in anything, just used her position to bully and push the ponies around. The only thing she could control was Diamond Tiara, and she took full advantage of that.

When DT stood up to her, she lost that and I think she knows it. Could be the last we see of her mother's behaviour.

I hope so, because she is a nasty individual, and an outright bigot and classist. I'm glad the nastiness from Diamond Tiara is over, and I'm hoping they expand on it, showing her doing her best to be good, and to do good things. I hope the same for Silver Spoon.

I'm also glad the showrunners decided to play it up big, because many of us had been waiting for this, and it was just awesome.

I thought for a few moments that...
DT was going to loose her cutie-mark adn get a new one. The why it was fading and her questioning herself, I was thinking we were going to get some new info cutie-marks.

Also...
I'm glad the CMC getting their marks wasn't the focus or the goal of the story. Felt right that they got just for being themselves.

About that...
Diamond's mom is a classist, bigoted hateful gold digger and has abused Diamond. There's no doubt in my mind. Abusers want power and when it's taken from them is when they get particularly nasty. She lives in the lap of luxury and may not be able to take over the business (Filthy Rich is too smart for that), but she can control people by being just damn mean. So she treats her daughter horribly. That's abuse, plain and simple.

Yes! It was the moment they realized that they didn't need to crusade, and just to be themselves, that's when it kicked in. I do like how they faked us out at first, and then *BAM!*, blindsided!

I had the same thought as well, and while I hope not, it wouldn't be uncommon in such a situation.

I'm already thinking of a fan fic about that. It'll be fluffy, given my own style.

Going in I was really concerned that this was going to be Magical Mystery Cure Redux. I was more than glad that I was proven wrong.
