Wait. When does Pinkie have chaos magic? Also, while Twilight will outlive the others so will Discord. So I imagine he and Twilight can hang out every now and then, and visit Celestia and Luna.

How old are the Mane Six supposed to be in the series anyway?
As Peach indicates, somewhere around the "young adult" age, so anywhere from 18-28ish at the time of episode 1. I believe Rarity is the oldest as she has a well established business by the time the first episode starts. We also know Fluttershy is 1 year older than Pinkie Pie (Episode 5). Twilight is likely somewhere in the middle of the pack. I would guess Rainbow Dash is the youngest, though somewhere around Pinkie's age, since both Dash and Fluttershy attended flight camp together. These are all guesses, of course.

Pinkie was the one who dropped the giant cupcake.

I think the Mane Six were young adults at the beginning of the series.
Which was a delicious moment, pun completely intended.

I would have thought if anyone could handle chaos magic, it would have been Pinkie as she has occasionally "rattled" the fourth wall if not outright break it. On a related note, before the writers had Flutters befriend Discord, I figured he would has seen a kindred spirit in Pinkie Pie.

And, yeah, seeing Twilight take on Celestia's regally lithe form while seeing her friends with crow's feet ans other hints of age pretty much spells out she will, sadly long, long outlive them, the "curse" of near immortality.

I never even considered pairing up Discord and Pinkie as friends until now... That would’ve been fun! But of course no pony except Fluttershy could’ve helped Discord learn to be good.

When did Pinkie drop the cupcake, I’m blanking?

About 20 minutes in, right when the chocolate rain starts.

I’ve kind of wondered why Celestia and Luna were never queens and why Twilight isn’t either. Also do they have to be alone to rule or can they have a special somepony? It seems a very lonely life.

Lauren Faust once said that Queens, at least in fairy tales, often ended up being evil, so she made Celestia and Luna as Princesses. That's also why Chrysalis is a Queen, and Sombra is a King, because they're evil.

It's the Disney curse of royalty. ;)
Yep, you have to have the evil queen! It appears that Twilight's crown in the "The Last Problem" is a fusion of Luna and Celestia's, which means Twilight controls both the day and the night.

So technically, Celestia and Luna are now even less useful as royalty? (kidding, naturally)
They're both at Silver Shoals these days. I'd love to know more about that, but Big Jim Miller (the showrunner) left it open so people could write their own scenarios for it.

Just thought I’d mention that there is a MLP manga series as well. Volume 1 has already been released with two more coming next year.

There is one final EQG special airing in November.

Now, I do like EQG, but not as much as MLP itself. The stories are more focused around teenagers in EQG, but the lessons are still good ones, and still relevant. I'm also a Sunset Shimmer fan, and that is my primary reason for sticking it out with the EQG specials.

...I'm also a Sunset Shimmer fan...

Same here (unquestionably my favorite character), such a vibrant design and one that translates well to a variety of individual art styles. Plus, she's just a neat personality, one with a troubled past, who, while having redeemed herself is still occasionally haunted by her earlier deeds.

She's probably the most well rounded person in the EQG universe.

Sunset Shimmer is my favourite EQG character too. She’s just so... Cool!

Aside from Rainbow Rocks, I really like Forgotten Friendship and Sunset’s Backstage Pass because she’s the focus.

I wish she had made a few appearances in FIM.
