Summary: "Smolder returns to the Dragonlands with Spike and Fluttershy to help cheer up her sensitive brother, but when they arrive, they are surprised to discover another problem -- the dragon eggs aren't hatching."

Ruminations: Hooray, a Smolder episode! I'm curious to see how they'll all interact. Also, Best Pony (Fluttershy Edition) is in it, and will be directly facing her own fears. I love it. Remember, no spoilers before the U.S. release of the episode, even though I know some folks have seen the Italian airing.

Oh, and I apologize for missing the last two episodes here, but I was dealing with some personal issues. So before we continue, just know that I love you very much. You have value, you have worth, you are loved.

Smolder, Flutters, and Spike travel to the dragonlands to witness the egg hatching (and for Smolder to visit her brother). As it turns out, Smolder's brother is Garble. Yep, that Garble. She says he's sensitive, but he treats Spike terribly. Of course, we find out he only does that because he has an artist's heart and is too afraid to show it to his "friends" because they would make fun of him for it.

He finally saves the day when the dragon eggs aren't hatching, and his poetry makes the dragons laugh so hard their fire becomes superheated and they manage to warm things up enough to cause the dragon babies to finally break free.

Ember declares Garble a hero, and says that dragons will be more open minded about art and friendship.

Fluttershy is always cute, and seeing her being completely over her fear of dragons (S1, E07 Dragonshy) is a nice nod to how far she's come. Spike has grown, and isn't afraid of Garble, but he is disappointed when his overtures of friendship keep getting ignored. So yes, Spike has matured, too.

It was also nice to see Smolder interacting with her brother, and getting that side of him to come out. Nice bit of nuance for a fun character.

This was a pretty good episode overall. I gave it a B.

I gotta' kick when Spike asked Ember if all the eggs were hers! Her aghast denial was icing on the cake!

Still, the implications... "Dang, girl! You been workin' overtime!"
