Damn, shit just got real. Dark magic Twilight and angry hallucination Celestia? Yes, please.

ETA: oh. Well that was anticlimactic.

Huh, an actual Crystal Heart, ok. Also Rainbow is really getting on my nerves with her casual disregard for her friends that started in season 2.

I know, people figured that out two weeks ago, but it's for the kids you know?

I may be lambasting the characters for not seeing it, but I'm actually on board with the idea. It's a more interesting development than having the crystal heart be an actual macguffan. At least this way, it's character-driven.

Also, that's Frank Welker, aka Megatron, as Sombra, isn't it?

Oh. It is an actual crystal heart.

....

Laaaaaaaaaaaaaammmme.

And the sparkly blind bag ponies are now canon.

Meh, it was fine. But was anyone else a little concerned with Tia's remark about 'self sacrifice' when we know she's manipulating her?

Huh, the commentators mentioned something there, all the crystal ponies we see are Earth ponies, but when the mane6 temporarily change, only Cadance is anything other than an Earth pony, all the horns and wings disappear.

Twilight looks adorable in her crystal form though :D but they did call Cadance the 'crystal princess', only she could activate the heart, it restores her, turns her first, and she stays an Alicorn. So there's some connection to her there alright.

That was a lot of fun. Hopefully back to slice of life stuff next week, though - my concern is that the show might start going towards the adventure-type stories a bit too much. The suggestion of a season arc points a little in that direction.

Well. That was a thing.

Not sure how to grade it. I was pretty on board with the whole deal until the end. Not sure they earned that triumphant reprise of the Failure Song, either.

Overall impression: a lot of great character moments hung on a reeeeeaaaaaly rickety frame with an unsatisfying conclusion.

They had a lot less freedom this season, and had to tighten it up a lot for the limited run, so it's not quite going to be up to the previous seasons.

But since Hasbro kinda leaked season 4 confirmation and William Anderson did say it would be 26 eps, fear not.

Anyone else keep watching HaxMega and see the promo during Littlest Pet Shop?

Pinkie Pie pulls a face - and it's the old style pony! :wtf:

Yeah she does a G1/3 face, and did anyone catch the Best Sisters Play angle for Celestia at the end? what was awesome

Also, I want to name the new thing at the end the "Amora Borealis" if you won't kill me for it

Wait, what? When? Unless you mean the little free-verse thing he put up on his DA, which was more broadly hinting and certainly didn't give an episode count.

In other news, comment from an unrelated article on on EqD:

I think the two-parter bugged me less than the wedding episodes, being more in line with the show's principles – friendship, magic, a personal stake for Twilight, all that good stuff. And props for having something off an offbeat structure that didn't feel like the other two-parters so far. But it was also a lot less satisfying than the others with lots of little digressions and bits of foreshadowing that didn't go anywhere. I'll have to watch it again when it hits youtube, I guess.

I did enjoy paper airplane Cadance there at the end. The storyboard artists are always in top form.

I totally missed both of those. But that ad spoiled the hell out of the upcoming season, didn't it? Too many Pinkie Pies, CMC, and Twilight Sparkle and Her Special Destiny (Kara Thrace sold separately). I'm calling it now: Alicorn Twilight is totally happening, at least for one episode.

And if that prediction is as accurate as the one about the crystal heart, it won't. :p

Also, I want to name the new thing at the end the "Amora Borealis" if you won't kill me for it

Go for it. I miss the punny names we got in season 1!

The Hub and Tara have both denied Twilight becomes an Alicorn at all, after people nearly crashed the server asking so many times.

And yeah at this point we know whats coming up for most of the season except for the finale, but by process of elimination that leaves the Discord two parter there.

OH GOD WHAT

Oh, like they'd acknowledge it if it were true.

Honestly, it's such a fanon idea that I wouldn't give it the time of day if it weren't for those Funrise winged Twilight plushies plus the Alicorn Twi vector on the big Hasbro Europe promotion banners. That's two official sources that show her as one; unless it's marketing going off on a tear totally unrelated to the show, that has to carry some weight.

But I'll reiterate that my track record on predicting the show so far has been terrible, so my instincts are not to be trusted.

The guy who made the winged poster admitted that he was messing around and didn't even watch the show.

But yeah that G3 Pinkie, where's the 'kill it with fire' macro when you need it.
