MLB Talk - 2010 Season

^ Bet you're glad you didn't watch In Treatment now, eh? ;)

What a game that was. Rangers bullpen just upended itself during the 8th inning. Pity that CC didn't do so well either, but he's got time to fix things.

I went to bed after the 7th. East Coast fans (albeit my team is long gone, but I love the playoffs), particularly those of us who are at work by 8 Mon-Fri, get hosed by the late finishes.

I am stoked for a pivotal Game 2 and the start of the NLCS tonight though. Though my wife is upset we'll miss COPS due to the game.

I never worried for a second, I just had a feeling the Yanks were going to pull this one out.

RAMA

Okay, I've had time to cool down and I can post my thoughts without getting furious or depressed.

The Braves that were playing from June-August could have easily breezed through the World Series. They were dominating the Phillies with a 7 game lead, running all over everyone in the NL and most of the AL teams they faced except for the White Sox. Martin Prado had a hit in nearly every game. Brooks Conrad and Eric Hinske were coming off the bench in the 7th - 9th innings and hitting monster pinch hit home runs. Chipper Jones at 3rd, Gonzalez at SS, Prado at 2nd, and Troy Glaus at 1st were an excellent infield.

Then, Chipper goes down, Prado goes down, Hudson loses his dominance, Kris Medlen has to undergo Tommy John, Saito gets hurt, Glaus's knees give up, Gonzalez gets as many errors as I was used to seeing Yunel Escobar get, etc.

It was just so sad to see this team start collapsing in September. I don't think any of the trades were beneficial. Derrek Lee won't ever be remembered as any kind of hero in Atlanta, Ankiel was silent in the outfield, and Kyle Farnsworth can't handle runners on base.

Oh well, see you boys in March. Braves 2011 WS Champions. ;)

Roy Halla-who? That was a great game, although I wish more guys other than Ross had put the smackdown on ol' Roy, but in typical Giants fashion the make it a nailbiter. After listening to all of this hype over Halliday, it was good to see him roughed up a bit and shown to not be completely impenetrable.

Oh, and no offense to any "phans" on the board, but Phillies fans for the most part have got to be the worst in the sport. The signs, for example...talk about classless. Not to mention they boo over just about everything, including actions from their own team. The best part of the win had to be knowing it shut those kinds of assholes up. Here's to continuing to shut them up.

^ and how. Torture, but a win is win :techman:

One aggravating thing though, the video on the local FOX affiliate went dead at about the 6th inning, then the audio went buggy in the 9th. I finally resorted to the radio for more reliable coverage to hear news of the win.

What losers. I hate it when fans do that - regardless of team.

Don't forget throwing batteries, having their former stadium so full of asshats that it literally had ITS OWN JAIL, and actually cheering when Michael Irvin suffered a career ending injury at that very same stadium. :(

Let's not forget not having a clue what you're fucking talking about. Except the Michael Irvin thing. I can't defend that. People who were there at the time say that they didn't know how badly he was injured, but I feel it was still obvious that his injury was serious enough to not justify that, regardless of how obnoxious he had been to other teams and their fans.

But batteries at Santa? Seriously, did you even try to do the research there? Same with Judge Seamus McCaffery. That was more for his benefit than the Stadium's benefit, which is evidenced by the fact that he's on the PA Supreme Court and there's no courtroom in Lincoln Financial Field.

Oh, yes, that green username give you a lot of power, eh boy? Knowing that you can say whatever you want, flame whoever you want, and they can't touch you?

All right, I admit, I messed up on that one. Confused Santa with J.D. Drew. I bet he gets that a lot.

If you knew the facts of any of those incidents, I wouldn't have called you on it. You brought up three events (well, actually four, but you combined two events thirty years apart in two different sports involving entirely different people with entirely different motivations into one event). The thing is those events are often brought up with people without any understanding of them.

Philadelphia fans aren't worse than most other fans. Incidents like that are rare and can be matched by fans of other teams who did similar things. But the national media loves to bring it up whenever they can. That's why these stories last, while stories of Denver fans throwing snowballs packed with batteries at players on the field is completely forgotten about.

Here we have, what, four people with signs that are more confusing to me than anything else (although I don't know if there's any history to say if they're more than generic insults). They're trying to get into a pitcher's head. That should be expected. It's not any different than Yankees fans shouting "Who's your daddy" chants at Pedro Martinez.

At least two differences with that, that I can see: 1) He started it, by his comments during the 2004 ALCS. 2) He actually *enjoyed* it. He liked the attention.

You think Lincecum would like being called names like those fans did? I rather doubt it. Those were mean spirited. This was not.

You're dodging the point. You made a bunch of spurious, questionable accusations towards Philadelphia fans, and then when called on it, you started obfuscating by trying to make the argument about Pedro Martinez "liking" the attention.
