MLB Talk - 2010 Season

Hm!

As a tangential, Whenever Posey gets a hit, The Sweet's song "Block Buster!" comes to mind.

Being a Giants fan, I dunno if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Heyward hasn't done much since May.

Marmol's pretty good. He has 17 saves, only blown 4... pitched over 40 innings. Looks like they're just throwing him out there in every situation.

I'm happy to see the G-Men back in 2nd place, now we just have to put distance between us and the Dodgers and Rocks and set our sights on the Pods. I'm also loving the return of our pitching dominance. They started to lose it a bit there towards the break but after three games back they've really gotten their groove back, especially Tim.

I really do hope that Posey gets a fair shot at ROTY. He's doing things nobody else is doing and dominating just about every stat there is. 11 games hitting streak, going on 12 today if the numbers mean anything. As has been said before, the dude is a beast, and I'm glad I can say I met him in his rookie days, especially when I see him inducted into the HOF in a few decades. :)

Thought you guys might like this article. This usher has been with the Braves since they came to Atlanta in '66, and says he has only missed about 10 games.

Yesterday was a great game, finally opening up a can against the damn Dodgers. Wilson blanking Casey Blake with three pitches was sweet revenge for Blake's douchbaggery last year (hitting a homer off of Wilson, then mocking him in the dugout). I'm still pissed off about that terrible call on Sunday against the Mets. I didn't see it live and had been told that watching the video would raise my blood pressure, but I watched anyway...and it did. It's not even clear if Blanco tagged Ishikawa at all. Why a call like that (a game-deciding play involving a run) was not reviewed by the umpiring team is beyond me. The Giants should have swept the Mets and should have an extra game up in the NL West. Robot umpires, you have my vote.

I think this is a real important stretch for the Giants. 2 More against the Dodgers and then the always fun 4 game series against the DBacks. I'd like to see a 5-2 stretch (So far so good) but a 4-3 stretch would be alright. They need to do some damage against the NL West because they haven't been able to all season.

As for that blown call, yeah I was upset about it too, but I still will take 3 games out of 4, especially against the Mets. Tonight though is important. It's Lincecum night and it seems like he's turning the corner from that stretch of bad games to the ace we all know and love. It also makes me glad that Jimenez has come back down to earth a bit lately, so Lincecum isn't the only one who looks human.

Hell of a Giants game last night. Probably one of the best and greatest Giants/Dodgers games I've seen ever. If there was any doubt that the Giants/Dodgers rivalry is dead, I think last night showed that not to be the case. Bochy actually did something extremely smart last night, calling out Mattingly on the 2 trips to the mound (Rule 8.06, A, B, C, and D, looked it up last night) and it was just really awesome. That, and all the ejections, hit pitchers, and Lincecum looked really bad last night which kind of got overshadowed by the late drama. Looking forward to what happens tonight, because I've got a feeling more sparks are going to fly.

Lou Pinella has announced he's retiring at season's end.

What a bunch of shit that was. A technicality, nothing more. Mattingly was, what, ONE INCH off the mound? Not a lot of common sense, really. He turns around to answer a question from Olney, and *Broxton* gets tossed from the game? What the fuck?

Bochy just did that to get a shot in at his hated enemy the Dodgers.

hanson: The first pic was funny, the second was not. :p

Hell yes, I can already feel the tension growing to make tonight one hell of a shootout. Last night was pretty epic, with each action the Dodgers made further screw them over. It all couldn't have happened to a nicer set of guys. :) Gotta love Buster coming through for insurance, Torres hitting the go-ahead RBI after Huff being walked to get to him and Bochy cashing in on a bonehead mistake by apparently the only manager the Dodgers had left.

That wasn't a bunch of shit, that was the rules of the game. He wasn't one inch off of the mound, he had both feet on the grass and was walking away, then went back. He made two visits to the mound before a pitch was thrown in between, and that's illegal. The penalty for that infraction is having the current pitcher removed. And Bochy didn't d it to "get a shot in" he did it for the same reason he does anything else during a game: to win it.

Had your precious Yankees done the same to the Sox I doubt you'd be throwing a fit.

He couldn't have, his starting pitcher got him thrown out. :)

In seriousness, though, I wouldn't have been mad. Because it's a rule. Just like I shouldn't be mad if one of the Giants pitchers balks and is called on it. It's a rule, and the opposing manager isn't being a jerk by calling the other team out on violating it, he's playing the damn game.

I dunno, it just seems like needlessly splitting hairs. It's not like Mattingly went all the way to the dugout and came back, he just stopped and turned around.

Hey Flux, have you ever met Bochy in person? If you do, be sure and ask him about the alligator rolls. :techman:

It doesn't matter if he made it to the dugout, the line of demarcation is the dirt and the grass.

I haven't met Bochy yet, no. I was a few minutes late in line at Fan Fest this year to get his autograph and meet him.

Technicality? I pointed exactly where the rule explicitly states what happened. That's no technicality. ;)

^ The umps did mess up one thing, though: They kicked Broxton out. The rule actually states that the pitcher would have to face one more batter. So Broxton should have stayed in the game.

Looks like Torre, Kershaw AND (bench coach) Bob Schaefer have been suspended because of this! Linky... :wtf:

In other news: Ralph Houk (former Yankees manager) has died... :(
