MLB Talk - 2010 Season

So... I think Brian McCann just gave the Braves home field advantage against the Yankees in the World Series. :D

Hey, for the Braves it would be a major accomplishment just to get past the NLDS. ;)

For once, the DH can be ever so slightly less relevant during the World Series. It's so good a meaningless exhibition game determines this instead of the coin flip they used previously.

The Brewers asked the Giants for Jonathan Sanchez or Madison Bumgarner in exchange for Corey Hart, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. Giants GM Brian Sabean is understandably hesitant to deal either pitcher.

That hit by McCann was pure awesomeness. Hopefully that's a good omen for the rest of the Brave's season. :techman:

Make the reward something smaller, and base the home field in the WS on something that makes SENSE. Which league had a better Interleague record that year, for instance.
I've always liked that the All-Star game actually meant something, but I like this idea better.

If the Brewers go for that, then they're really packing it in for the season. Corey Hart's one of the few bright spots for the team this year. They do need pitching, though.

and take away from the greatness that is the annual mid-season exhibition game that the All Star game is.

What sport are you watching?

The all-star game sucks a sweaty one. It's beyond pointless and boring.

The "mid season exhibition game" outweighs any shred of greatness that might be present. Sorry I wasn't clearer in my sarcasm. ;)

I may watch the first part to see Ubaldo pitch, but I'm planning on watching Deadliest Catch - Captain Phil dies tonight.

Gotcha. Sarcasm can be tough to pick up in a post.

I watched DC last night myself. The ending was fairly sudden, but next week revolves around the reactions around the fleet, so I'll be interested to see that. I taped After the Catch and will watch that tonight.

The Phil stuff is real sad. If my own Dad wasn't on borrowed time himself at this point, I'm sure I would have gotten real emotional. He and I had a similar chat to the Phil/Josh talk on Friday, so I was like meh when I watched because I just went through it in real life, where it wasn't meh.

Back on point...I'm glad the NL won. I cling to small hopes the Mets will make a Wild Card run. (Just like 10 years ago, they're a step behind Atlanta. :scream:) If they somehow made it to the Series, homefield would be nice.

Yunel Escobar and Jo Jo Reyes to Toronto for Alex Gonzalez. A short stop with ADHD and an attitude problem packaged with a pitcher who can't make it in the majors. Blue Jays got robbed. :wtf:

I don't think Gonzalez is going to be putting up the same numbers in Atlanta. It's not a homerun-friendly park.

^ Plus, Gonzalez has been overperforming. His numbers will come back down to Earth, and Escobar should be a decent SS until Hechavarria is ready. He's the long-term plan at short, after all.

Plus, Beltran is coming back. We'll see how the lineup gets shaken around...

I was 6.

Tomorrow night ought be a fun night for this forum. Myself, Alidar Jarok, Kira's Mom, mimic, SmoothieX, Joeman, Chaos Descending, Flux Capacitor tomalak301, Kirby, and the 4th Hanson bro, against... you AL heathens. :p

Wow, I got a mention even though I was on Vacation. That's nice.

I do have a confession to make though. I like the AL rules better, and yes I like the DH. I just find it embarrassing when pitchers (For the most part, even though some know how) hit, especially in clutch situations. Also, pitchers need to learn how to hit and run the bases, and other than in the Majors, pitchers really don't do that. Still, that's a different topic all together but wanted to say that.

Buster Posey is a beast.

Yes he is. I love watching him hit. Going opposite field like that at that ballpark was just fantastic to watch. He really is turning into the "can't miss" player to see in Baseball. Pity he probably won't win Rookie of the Year but he should be in contention.

BTW, anyone hear about the Phillies game today? Cole Hamels pitched a great game, but was going to be the losing pitcher in a 1-0 game where the score was on a Suicide Squeeze. Then a dropped ball by the catcher and a closer (Marmol) who flat out lost all control (walked a couple of runs, threw a wild pitch to score another, and gave up at least a hit) led to the Cubs basically giving the Phillies the win.

As a Phillies fan, I have mixed feelings about this game, but I'll take the win. I can't imagine how the Cubs fans would feel, though. I've seen closers implode, but it's hard to have a closer you flat out can't trust like that guy. He could go from being on fire to the best player for the other team in the same inning.

Realy? Who's shining brighter? I've had my head down in books and shock the first two months of the season, and the rest just focusing on the Giants.

The guy who came to mind first because of the media hype was Stephen Strasberg. Not sure if there is precedents for pitchers winning Rookie of the Year (There probably are) but people know who he is and he plays on the east coast. Either him or Hayward, but other than the first week of the season, I don't know really how Hayward is doing.
