It's funny, but I bet if you researched all these unwritten rules, you'd find a valid reason for why they came about. Some are just common sense, like taking a pitch after the pitcher walks a couple batters. Some have tactical foundations and some are just long-practiced rules of baseball etiquette.Unwritten rule # 2.

Much of broadcasting management is overwhelmingly conservative, and both tHom and Marty are known to be pretty ultra right-wing chuds. Even if he gets canned, he'll land somewhere. By the time he's calling NFL games for Fox's B-team this season, everyone will have forgotten this.
Doesn't change the fact that tHom sucks and has always sucked.
Jim Day is good at calling a game, and you are correct that the only reason that Thom got the job was that he was Marty's boy.

Brennaman has been suspended indefinitely from calling Reds games, while Day will take over as the primary play-by-play man for the time being. I presume the suspension as opposed to a summary termination is to buy time for the lawyers to find the least messy way out of Brennaman's contract.
I've hated Thom Brennamann since he called Cubs games (along with, as you know, Joe Buck & Chip Caray).

ETA: I didn't mean they broadcast together (in my experience), just that Buck and Caray are in my list of broadcasters I'd rather wear these earmuffs than listen to:

To me? Boring, annoying, doesn't really know that much about the game.
For NFL games, I actually don't mind Aikman or Romo. Booger was laughable, but he was raw, so it wasn't necessarily his fault.
Romo is good. Aikman comes with Joe Buck, so I turn the sound off.
