MLB Pseudo-Season 2020: Roger, Dodgers

Starting the runner on second is a stupid addition. The speed of the game was/is fine. Football takes just as long with more manipulating of the clock.

I will continue beating this drum: Order the umpires to enforce the rule that a batter must keep one foot in the box at all times so they don't take 35 seconds adjusting their gloves, tapping the dirt off their cleats, scratching their nuts and checking their grip on the bat after every pitch. Boom, pace of play is established.

I wonder if they are leery to take that step because of the CBA (punishment or even rule not being defined) and the potential of opening themselves to a player lawsuit?

Scratching their nuts is as much a part of the game as anything! Especially now that they don't spit as much tabaky juice.

All of the major sports take hours to complete a game.

I'm a fan that likes the strategy in baseball, even if I don't understand it completely. Putting in silly rules like the runner on second or the reliever has to throw so many pitches just to speed it up is silly. If you truly want to make your game more accessible in this day and age, you need to produce a lot of accessible, online content and let your players be themselves and out there. You also need to encourage owners that are continually in the basement of the league to do something to improve their teams and put butts in seats.

Unless it's a long playoff game, Hockey still feels like the quickest to complete. It's usually 2 and a half hours, which is fine for entertainment value.

It's codified in the Official Rules; if the player takes both feet out of the box, then it's an automatic strike. The umpires just don't enforce it.

Nice to see some players being smart and bailing on the season, can't wait for the "THEY ABANDONED THEIR TEAMMATES!" BS.

I'm not even sure I will watch the games. This feels like it's going to be like spring training all season long. 4 guys you know in the lineup. 5 guys who should be in Triple A. Players going down with COVID left and right. A few managers will also go down. Some might even die because those managers and coaches aren't spring chickens. It's a bunch of older guys no doubt with health issues already.

What are the major league rules going to be as far as number of players, especially now with the inability to recall anyone from the minors?

This is assuming MLB doesn't get their brains on straight and cancel the season.

Today is an interesting baseball anniversary. Back in the day, the New York Mets owed Bobby Bonilla a bunch of money. However, the Mets organization had a large amount of funds (much of the money being Bonilla's) invested with a certain Bernie Madoff. Well, we all know how that turned out. To repay Bonilla, the Mets agreed to pay him 1.2 million dollars a year for 25 years. The payments are made every July 1 and will continue until 2035. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving! Happy "Bobby Bo Day" to one and all.

Chicago Cubs left-hander Jose Quintana had surgery to repair nerve damage in his pitching thumb Thursday after he cut himself washing dishes and is out indefinitely.

It probably won't matter once they're forced to cancel the season.
