MLB Pseudo-Season 2020: Roger, Dodgers

That schtick helped the Cubs a win World Series and almost one with the Rays. He is best manager in the game. Jason

He could be the best, but the schtick wears thin after a year or two. He couldn't repeat the success with more or less the same talent. Each year the players listened less and less to him and the coaches.

It's why I'm worried that they kept the same hitting & pitching coaches under Ross. I feel like they needed a whole new crew with some fresh voices.

Yep.

I understand how unusual that sounds. But NYC had been my favorite vacation spot for some time before I ever got into baseball. So I chose the city first, THEN the teams. ;)

And since they rarely play each other, I don't see a problem with rooting for both.

I've never grokked the idea of being a fan of two teams in the same sport but even if I could understand that, being a Yankee and Mets fan is damned bizarre.

Word is that MLB is going to implement a 3-batter minimum for relief pitchers next year.

God, Manfred sucks, but he's really going out of his way to ruin baseball.

This is the dumbest rule suggestion I've ever heard. I'm tired about folks wanking about the length of the game and pace of play. You want to make the game shorter, reduce the number of pitchers on the team and keep the damn batters in the batters box.

Agreed.

Any city with two teams, you gotta pick one!

Go Angels! The Dodgers can suck it.

Other than Manfred, who is wanking about the length of games? I couldn't care less about how long a game runs.

I think, with the exception of injury, I would like to see any given relief pitcher have to get an out before being able to be replaced. Too much of a guy coming in from the bullpen and giving up a walk or hit, then we see them switch yet again.

It kinda kills the late game pacing when drama is supposed to be amped up. So I agree with the sentiment in this, though not the actual way they want to do it.

Though it explains why every one is chasing late inning eaters the last couple of off-seasons.

I’m both a Mets and Yankees fan. Growing up, I rooted for the Mets but we went to a lot more Yankees games. My dad was a Yankees fan and my brother. When I could go when I was older in the 80’s it was easier to get Yankees tickets than Mets. So I would go to 3 or 4 Mets games but like 15 or 20 Yankees games. It was super scary in the Bronx in the mid 80’s.

Been a Yankees fan since the middle 70's and the only time I root against the Mets is when it's a subway series

If they want to speed up the game they need to raise the mound and create more pitching duels. Jason

Tensions rising in MLB/MiLB talks...

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/tensions-rising-in-mlb-milb-negotiations.html

SATURDAY, 11:52 am: The relationship is strained and tensions are rising between Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates. Negotiations between the two sides have failed to find middle ground, and both sides have publicly decried the other, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. Commissioner Rob Manfred is now threatening to walk away completely if the minor league owners aren’t willing to make concessions.

So what's the deal here? Is mlb loosing money here? Are these minor league teams operating in the red?

MLB is going to eradicate its minor-league talent pool to save a few million a year because a few fucking morons with MBAs think they've solved player development with their spreadsheets, and it's willing to rip up the relationship it's had with Minor League Baseball (which has lasted for nearly a hundred years).

This isn't about MLB losing money, because MLB and its teams don't outright own their minor-league affiliates (with a few exceptions). Beyond contracting 42 teams, MLB is also proposing to cut down the draft from 40 to 20 rounds. In short, this is all about MLB reducing the number of potential jobs.
