MLB Pseudo-Season 2020: Roger, Dodgers

This is the list that was published by the New York Times. I've added their MLB affiliates in brackets (except for the Appalachian League, where they all have the same name as their affiliate team).

South Atlantic League (Class A)
  • Hagerstown Suns [Nationals]
  • Lexington Legends [Royals]
  • West Virginia Power [Mariners]
Appalachian League (Rookie)
  • Bluefield Blue Jays
  • Bristol Pirates
  • Burlington Royals
  • Danville Braves
  • Elizabethton Twins
  • Greeneville Reds
  • Johnson City Cardinals
  • Kingsport Mets
  • Princeton Rays
Carolina League (Advanced A)
  • Frederick Keys [Orioles]
California League (Advanced A)
  • Lancaster Jethawks [Rockies]
Southern League (Double-A)
  • Chattanooga Lookouts [Reds]
  • Jackson Generals [Diamondbacks]
Eastern League (Double-A)
  • Binghamton Rumble Ponies [Mets]
  • Erie SeaWolves [Tigers]
Florida State League (Advanced A)
  • Daytona Tortugas [Reds]
  • Florida Fire Frogs [Braves]
Midwest League (Class A)
  • Burlington Bees [Angels]
  • Clinton LumberKings [Marlins]
  • Quad Cities River Bandits [Astros]
New York-Penn League (Class A)
  • Auburn Doubledays [Nationals]
  • Batavia Muckdogs [Marlins]
  • Lowell Spinners [Red Sox]
  • Mahoning Valley Scrappers [Indians]
  • Norwich Sea Unicorns [Tigers]
  • State College Spikes [Cardinals]
  • Staten Island Yankees [Yankees]
  • Vermont Lake Monsters [Athletics]
  • Williamsport Crosscutters [Phillies]
Northwest League (Class A)
  • Salem-Keizer Volcanoes [Giants]
  • Tri-City Dust Devils [Padres]
Pioneer League (Rookie)
  • Billings Mustangs [Reds]
  • Grand Junction Rockies [Rockies]
  • Great Falls Voyagers [White Sox]
  • Idaho Falls Chukars [Royals]
  • Missoula PaddleHeads [Diamondbacks]
  • Ogden Raptors [Dodgers]
  • Orem Owlz [Angels]
  • Rocky Mountain Vibes [Brewers]
These cuts would entirely eliminate the Pioneer League, and decimate the New-York Penn League (9 out of 14 teams are on the list) and Appalachian League (8 of 10 teams). I also wonder if this will result in a subsequent reshuffling of the affiliations of the remaining MiLB teams; the Cubs and Rangers don't lose anyone in this list, while the Reds lose four teams, the Royals lose three, and two teams each get taken from the Angels, Braves, Cards, D-Backs, Marlins, Mets, Nats, Rockies, and Tigers.

Wow! Thanks Santa biggles!

I was stationed in Staten Island and didn't know there was an A level team there

Mark Lerner, who is made of money, says the Nationals cannot afford to bring back both Strasburg and Rendon.

Apparently the new market efficiency is for WS-winning teams to suddenly claim they don’t have the cash to spend on all-star players. See: Astros, Cubs, Red Sox, Nats.

Legally? Probably not much. But if he and other politicians raise the issue, there can be public pressure on the matter. People get very attached to their local minor league teams.
Indeed. I have friends and family who are more interested in the minor league teams than the majors. My uncle does annual road trip visiting different minor league teams across the country. He doesn't care about the majors anymore.

I hate that shit so much.

Per Ken Rosenthal in The Athletic, the Cubs have been telling representatives of even low-budget free agents that they need to clear money before engaging in serious negotiations.

Yeah, the Cubs, who make a hojillion dollars in revenue every year and have another revenue stream popping up next season with their new RSN, need to save money.

God, they really are going to trade Bryant for salary relief. I hate the Rickettses so much.

The HoF Modern Era committee has elected Marvin Miller and Ted Simmons to the Hall of Fame.
'Bout time for Marvin Miller. Too bad they waited until he was dead. I don't think any other single man had more impact on the sport than Miller except for maybe Branch Rickey.

If this ends up being accurate, they've made their choice: Strasburg for 7 years/$245M. The guy survived Dusty Baker and came back strong, so if anyone deserves that deal, it's him.

I agree that Miller's impact on the game was fundamental (and he'd be horrified to see how toothless the MLBPA is today), but I'm of two minds of him being voted in. He actively disdained the Hall of Fame, and said that if he were elected while he were still alive, he would not attend the induction ceremony. Miller's son, Peter, spoke to him two days before his death and said that his father's feelings had not changed.

I meant if what Timby was saying about "one or the other" being true, as ridiculous as that is. You'd think they would learn from the Cubs about not building on what you have, at least by keeping your best guys.

I don't think they were ever going to keep two guys making $30+ million dollars a year. That just wasn't in the cards.

Bruce Levine, who's generally plugged-in when it comes to Cubs news (he still has a few sources in the front office), says that the Cubs and Phillies are engaged in trade talks for Bryant. The hold-up is that Bryant's service time grievance--remember 2015, when the Cubs held him down in AAA until, just coincidentally, they called him up the day after they gained another year of control on him--still hasn't been resolved, so it's uncertain whether he becomes a free agent after 2020 or 2021, and as a result Philadelphia is hesitant to trade genuine assets for a potential rental player.

Fuck the Cubs and the Rickettses.

You got your World Series trophy. Check back in 80-90 years for the next one. :p

I'd be happy if the Cubs won the next two World Series and then sucked for a hundred years, as opposed to just raking in massive profits forever and not giving a shit about putting the best team on the field. For a team that makes money hand over fist and has roughly $150 million coming in, annually, from its new RSN, to plead poverty is utterly digusting.
