MLB Offseason: Owners got a dinger of a CBA

Oh, lordy...Angel Hernandez is trending.
Apparently a drunken umpire in the Mexican League drew comparisons to Hernandez... as in, even though he was totally shitfaced, flipped the bird to fans, argued with players and coaches, and was ultimately ejected from the game, he's still a better umpire than Hernandez.

Meanwhile, four minor league teams that were cut loose when MLB took over MiLB last year are suing the league, challenging their long-standing anti-trust exemption. (sauce)

Unfortunately, this is unlikely to go anywhere. In both Toolson v. New York Yankees, as well as the Curt Flood case, the Supreme Court has punted and very explicitly said that while the antitrust exemption is anti-competitive horseshit, it can only be remedied by an act of Congress. I expect the same thing to happen here.

Kyle Seager retires after 11 seasons. Considering the season he had last year, he's leaving a lot of money on the table by walking away. You don't see that very often.

I'm sure a lot of them are invested in other businesses as well, so while someone might be worth $4 billion on paper, they don't necessarily have every penny of that sunk into the team. And for teams where there's a group of owners, the list only gives a net worth for the lead owner. While the point still stands that all these people are rich as fuck, that list leaves out a lot of information.

MLB and the MLBPA will have a negotiation session on Thursday, their first since a seven-minute meeting on December 1.

He was never anywhere near the best pitcher in the league at any of his stops, but 200 wins and 3 World Series rings? Good on you, Lester. Good on you.

Even if you couldn't throw to first.

He threw a pretty mean glove to first

And the last few years he was kinda seriously hittable, but his playoff experience served him well.

MLB has killed the Rays' plan to split time between Tampa and Montreal. The Rays are now back to asking Tampa Bay for a public handout for a new stadium.

Carlos Correa has hired Scot Borass as his agent. His price just about tripled.

Good for Correa. Get paid, my man.

A woman fell to her death while holding her child at Petco Park last September. The investigation has concluded that she committed suicide, so the child's death has been ruled a homicide.

And since the perpetrator of that homicide is dead, the point of that would be...what, exactly?

I'll drink to that.'

Seriously, what the hell were the Rays thinking, anyway? Stade Olympique is even worse than the Trop! Were they like, we want to play in TWO shitty stadiums and not just one?

At least the Montréal stadium has mass transit access. Hell, I'd be happy if the Rays would just move up there full time!
