MLB Offseason: Or, your team didn't make the playoffs

OR IN THE CASE OF THE FUCKING CUBS THEY GOT BOUNCED IN THREE GAMES LIKE SAD-SACK INVERTEBRATES.

Ahem.

Well, for most of Major League Baseball, the offseason is now, and it's time for teams to begin plotting their rosters for the 2009 season.

Where does your team go from here?

It can't get any worse for the Giants can it? I still say they can trade Matt Cain, just make sure no one touches Lincecum.

Oh, there's no way Sabean lets anyone near Lincecum. I'd imagine the Giants' primary offseason goal is finding someone, anyone, to take Barry Zito off their hands.

The Yankees will go out and spend another $50 million dollars on players to try and insure a return to the postseason. It's the Steinbrenner Way.

Off-Load:
Derrek Lee, Alfonso Soriano, Kosuke Fukudome, Bob Howry

Sign:
CC Sabathia, Left-handed Power bats, reliable set-up man

Also:
stop letting them kill me with their incompetence.

Lee has a full no-trade clause in his contract, and given that (outside of his tantrum) he was the Cubs' best offensive performer in the playoffs ... no.

Alfonso Soriano

I hated this signing from Day One. His contract, between length and value, ensures that he has a no-deal albatross,

Howry's gone. Wood will demand far too much money. Dempster can go lay an egg for some other team.[/QUOTE]

the main problem i have with lee is the g-d double plays. I just dont understand how you can score far and away more runs than any other team in the nl, if not mlb, and score 6 FUCKING RUNS in three games.

FUCK.

Braves:

Retained the entire staff. They're looking for two veteran pitchers (there are lots of them) and a power hitting outfielder who can play full time. Hopefully its just a matter of seeing everyone back and healthy. 2008 was ruined by injuries. You can't lose your top three pitchers, your closer, and your setup guy in the same year and expect to make it.

As a Met fan I`d gladly welcome Alfonso Sorriano to Citifield. He can play left field and bat behind Reyes, Beltran and Wright any day of the week.

Sometimes I wonder if being in New York is a bad thing, because it gives owners the feeling that they can buy their way out of problems. Didn't win this year? Add another major superstar to your roster.

To be honest, the Mets don't really need offensive help, they just need bullpen pitching.

The Mets might look for one more starting pitcher, though. Glavine seem sto be through, and I'm beginning to think the same about Pedro

Your right. The Offense is fine and we need bullpen help in the worst way but I`d rather have Soriano in left then Murphy or Tatis, just like I`d rather have Mo Rivera over Luis Ayala or a tackling dummy over Luis Castilo. This is all a hypothetical situation anyway because Soriano will be a Cub next year.

If Schilling does not retire, I could see him signing with a team like Atlanta...just a thought.

Hopeless Met fan here. Obviously their most pressing need is help in the bullpen. Wagner is likely out for the year, and the rest of the pen is in shambles.

They need an established closer, and some guys who can eat innings. They can't have specialists like Smith or Schoenweiss pitching 2 innings.

They also need a couple of starters. Only Johan, Pelfrey, and Maine are locked up. I'd let Pedro go, he's washed up. I'd let Perez go, he's too inconsistent for the money he's looking for in free agency. I heard Jake Peavy was being made available for a trade. That'd be a nice option.

They also need a left fielder and a second baseman. Alou is done, and Castillo is broken down but unfortunately signed for 3 more years. I think they should give Daniel Murphy a shot to make the roster next year to fill in, and get someone more established to play left.

And the Twins will probably see their payroll drop even further. It's the Carl Pohlad way.

We are stuck with Soriano, especially given his contract. He should be dropped down in the order.

Lee is solid defensively. He should be dropped down in the order.

I would expect another home-town discount for Wood in a one-year deal, but you never know.

Howry is certainly no big loss. Szmardja will most likely compete with Marquis (another big contract) for the fifth starting spot.

Send Fukudome to Triple-A to regain confidence and learn how to not look silly with his swings.

Keep Reed Johnson in center or find a left-hander somewhere. I wouldn't trust Edmonds to have another monster year and he might retire anyway.

The problem with this team is mental. Lou must take the bull by the horns.

They should re-sign Dempster. He did well this year. I do not blame his game 1 implosion directly on him, as it was plainly silly to start him in his first post-season start in that spot, and Lou should have had Lilly warming up after the third walk.

I blame this early exit on Lou most of all.

Other than the WS he won with the Reds back in the day, he's got a history of good teams that can't get over that last hump.

Those Mariner teams should have come away with at least one title. I swear they were in the ALCS every year.
