MLB Offseason: February 15 isn't THAT far away...

Sounds like that was part of the deal when he signed him, though. Can't use it as a selling point and then bitch later when he does it...

Agree. If he had just decided to bring his kid around all the time, then I'd be with management. But don't use family to woo the guy into signing and then tell him no.

Best shape of his life, folks.

Round is a shape...

On the plus side, Farrell seems to know he's managing for his job right now, and Dombrowski is new and not beholden to anyone that was brought in before him, so it seems to be leading towards a competition at 3B between him and Shaw right now. Shaw, who is tearing up spring training, for what little spring training numbers are worth.

Downside being Pablo is fairly useless as a bench player (not going to pinch run, not coming in for defense, only plays one position), so doesn't leave a great option there. And he seems like the sort that would turtle if not gently hugged and supported, so hoping this lights a fire under him instead of leading to him being replaced. He's gonna be fat regardless, though, no fixing that...

Alex Rodriguez has announced he will retire following the expiration of his contract after the 2017 season.

Oriole acquire Edgar Olmos from the Cubs for a PTBN. The Orioles had him once already and the Cubs had him twice...since December. I'm surprised the Orioles just didn't wait the Cubs out, again.
  • December 4, 2015: Selected off waivers by the Cubs from the Mariners
  • December 10, 2015: Selected off waivers by the Orioles from the Cubs
  • December 23, 2015: Selected off waivers by the Cubs from the Orioles
  • March 24, 2016: Orioles acquire Olmos in a trade with the Cubs

We'll see. Maybe Shaw gets hot, maybe it embarrasses Pablo into putting some effort in. Not exactly a ton of trade value, but not sure they pay him to sit on the bench long term either. If he's being benched for bad defense and mediocre bat, not like he's a value on the bench either. Rumor with the Padres, but who knows. Suppose it'll shake itself out.

I'm not one to say "I told you so..."

Likely to be immobile within three years, has almost zero range, can't hit lefties, has regressed in almost every meaningful statistic each year since 2011 (BA, OBP, SLG, OPS+), and it's not like he can fill Ortiz's role of "fat guy playing DH who hits dingers" because Sandoval is in no way a power hitter. Any way you slice it, $95 million for a guy who is going to wind up averaging about a .700 OPS is a ludicrous overpay.

But ... I told you so.
