MLB Offseason: February 15 isn't THAT far away...

Kinda annoyed that this will now lead to something similar to the Jeter Fanwank Tour, as well. Maybe not on that level, but sure it will be marketed somewhat similarly, though hopefully toned down...
It is a little annoying that we're going to go through another one of these, but hopefully it will be less obnoxious than Jeter's farewell tour was. One of the sports writers for the Boston Globe said on Twitter that Ortiz didn't want a Jeter-like retirement tour but his agents and sponsors did. Money always wins out.

Still, it's gonna be weird seeing the Red Sox without him in 2017. I know Ortiz will have only spent the last thirteen years of his career in Boston (which, granted, is still most of it) but it feels like the guy was a Red Sox lifer.

So the Tigers traded their #1 prospect Javier Betancourt and a PTBN to the Brewers for closer, Francisco Rodriguez. This is one of the most ridiculous trades ever. He's not worth this, no way no how.

Betancourt wasn't even a top-15 prospect in the Tigers system, and he put together an OPS of 640 in high-A last year. Rodriguez is still relatively young and has put together two great seasons, so it's not a bad trade for Detroit. The issue with Rodriguez is that he's a domestic abuser, therefore fuck that guy.

Very shocking. I felt Kershaw should have won (the last time someone had a sub 2.00 FIP and 300+ strikeouts was 1999 Pedro; before that was 1965 Sandy Koufax) with Greinke coming in third, but, hey, go Cubs.

Now we just need to hope and pray Arrieta's arm doesn't fall off next year.

^ Maybe the writers didn't see your memo about wins being irrelevant? That would seem to be the main difference here.

Plus Arrieta's second half for the history books. I'm happy with the results, the Cubs take 3 out of 4 in the series.

Hal McCoy's Cy Young ballot:

1 Arrieta
2 Greinke
3 Cole
4 Bumgarner
5 Kershaw

wat

MVP's

Bryce Harper (unanimous) for the NL
Josh Donaldson for the AL

Anthony Rizzo was 4th with 162 points
Jake Arrieta was 6th with 134 points
Kris Bryant was 11th with 34 points

The Cubs and Yankees are talking a Castro for Gardner swap.

Dooooo iiiiiiiit.

Is Gardner worth "good Castro"? Who would play 2nd base?

Would Castro even be able to handle NY? Chicago is a media circus, but not even close to NY. If Castro does some bird-watching in Yankee stadium, they'll nail him to a cross.

There's a rumor that Robinson Cano is unhappy in Seattle and would like to go back to New York.

Hey, Robbie, there's a team on the North Side of Chicago that could use an upgrade at 2B...

Age 33 season $24MM AAV all the way to 2023? I'd rather have Baez.

^^ That always seems to be the problem. You go where they pay you the most instead of where you really want to be. And then don't want to take a pay cut, but want to be traded back to the place you should have gone, so you can get salary AND comfort.

people gotta take that into account when looking at contracts. Yeah, you get more "respect" (i.e. money) in city a, but for 2M less, city b is the perfect situation for you. they rarely pick b, but then try to shoot their way out of A a couple years later.

Congrats to Roberts, good guy. Most important SB in baseball history :)

Red Sox rumored to be in heavy on David Price, have basically been telling everyone they are coming away with Price or Grinke. We'll see, but that would certainly help. And if you're going to overpay, may as well be for young power arm instead of guys on the wrong side of 30. Not sure Boston would be a good fit for Grinke with his anxiety issues, though, media would eat him alive first time he shits the bed in a game.
