MLB Offseason 2018-19: SIGN KIMBREL AND KEUCHEL YOU FUCKS

Not open for further replies.

To the Phillies for Carlos Santana (guitarist extraordinaire) & J.P Crawford (shortstop). The Phillies also get relievers Juan Nicasio & James Pazos.

Corbin to the Nationals. Six years, $140 million with some money deferred and no opt-out clauses.

I wonder if they've decided to move on from Bryce Harper?

I don't know what their bank account looks like, but $140M isn't that much.

Oh, wonderful. He's been a Cubs killer his entire career. So nice to have him in the division.

That return is something, seems like they just wanted some warm bodies back.

Anyone going to be surprised when he reups with the Cards?

It definitely reads like a light return on paper. Weaver’s a solid 3 / 4 pitcher who has a few durability questions, but decent MLB experience, and the Cardinals have like four or five guys who project nearly identically to him on the farm. Kelly was Yadi’s heir apparent, good game calling and defense, with a questionable bat. Andrew Young feels like a lotto ticket.

Weaver has 5 years of control left, Kelly has 6 years. The bullshit sandwich pick (that the Cardinals get every year for being a "small market") is kind of irrelevant as the Cards will get one if he leaves (assuming they make him a QO).

The Cubs better get their shit happenin'. Milwaukee isn't a flash in the pan like in years past, and now the Cards are making some moves.

Theo came out right at the start of the offseason and, citing the salary cap--I mean, the luxury tax--basically said the team was only spending money on its arb-eligible players and maybe a backup catcher and retooling the bullpen a bit; essentially, they are not going to be players in trades or free agency.

Awesome news for the Red Sox, Eovaldi was really clutch for them. I honestly thought he'd get a bigger deal elsewhere after his postseason performance.

Tampa Bay's payroll stands to be about $38 million in 2019, as of right now...

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/12/rays-interested-in-charlie-morton.html

Beyond that, the Rays have compiled an impressive collection of pre-arbitration talent, headlined by AL Cy Young winner Blake Snell and Rookie of the Year candidate Joey Wendle, leading to a projected 2019 payroll of just $37.3MM at present. That figure includes a full 25-man roster as well as the $2MM they’ll owe the Giants in 2019 as part of last winter’s Evan Longoria trade. Low-spending as they may be, the Rays have averaged a $64MM Opening Day payroll over the past decade, so even a competitive bid for Morton — MLBTR estimated a $16MM annual salary on a two-year deal — would technically fit into the budget. Then again, the Rays have never really spent at that level (or close to it) on a free agent before.

Nationals owner Mark Lerner doesn't expect to resign Harper...

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/12/nationals-bryce-harper-dont-expect-return-re-sign-rumors.html

“Well, when we met with them and we gave them the offer, we told them, ’This is the best we can do,'” said Lerner of the September extension offer. “We went right to the finish line very quickly, and we said, ’If this is of interest to you, please come back to us and we’ll see whether we can finish it up.’ But we just couldn’t afford to put more than that in and still be able to put a team together that had a chance to win the NL East or go farther than that.”

I think the thing with Eovaldi is that he's never been really good outside of being balls-out in this past postseason.

The car accident that killed Luis Valbuena and Jose Castillo is now being investigated as a homicide. 4 suspects arrested.

Not surprising. This is actually fairly common in Venezuela; the country is ... not in a good place right now.

Nah. Saves are a bullshit stat, same with pitcher wins and RBI.
I agree saves are bullshit but that's not the only thing Lee Smith was good for. A 3.03 career ERA through nearly 1300 innings is nothing to sneeze at.
