MLB Chatter 2008

Well, I can't believe the Red Sox were stupid enough to take Mark Kotsay, but by all means enjoy this injury plagued middle of the road player! :D

Well they picked up Kotsay as a backup for the JD Drew situation, and they really have not given up anything big for him, so it's a good deal I think for both teams.

Given how thoroughly the Sox spanked the Yankees tonight without Lowell and Drew, a backup might not even be necessary.

Heck, Tito even let creaky Mike Timlin pitch two innings.

Byrd managed to get the win, but I fail to be impressed with his stuff; he has consistently struggled to find the strike zone.

I do think it's finally time to close the books on the 2008 Yankees, though. :)

Well the funny thing is, Byrd is known for not walking anyone. But yeah, Dustin Pedroia single handedly ended the Yanks season.

Too bad Hank won`t let the Mets borrow Mo Rivera for the good of NY.

Todays game was wierd. The Mets played like the Phillies with bad starting pitching, but great relief pitching and late inning scoring, while the Phillies played like the Mets scoring early and having the pen blow the lead while the offense takes a nap.

Oh well, we are back in first where we belong and I want to say sorry to Carlos Delgado and all the bad things, I`ve said about him.

Ah, my poor Yankees. No pitching no hitting, no heart, no nothing. Or as Hank Steinbrenner said in today's NY Daily News, "They sucked." What an uninspired, crappy send-off for the old stadium.

Well, fall is almost here. Go Giants!

Its gonna be great once October hits. Hopefully Shea will be hosting late Oct games while the baseball wrecking ball takes out the stadium.

So I think there's a good possibility that the Nationals will actually pass the Braves this month and leave Atlanta sitting in dead last in the division when they were actually still in the race at the end of July. The braves still honestly have a .1% of making the playoffs. I'm holding onto that. ;)

I'm glad Atlanta got rid of Kotsay but I still for the life of me can't figure out why they keep developing prospects until they're halfway decent and then just trade them away. If we still had Edgar Renteria and Mark Texeira and Brian Giles going into next season it would be amazing, but the GM makes some weird decisions as far as I'm concerned.

The Cleveland Indians have won 10 straight. Too little too late huh?

Well the Yanks get a walkoff against the Sox today in NYC. I would have liked to win all three, but really, whatever. Its the Sox last game probably ever at the Stadium, and while I would have loved to stick it to the Yanks, I am actually not all the upset about it.

They still do not have the pitching to put together a run I do not think, and I think they are already done. The Sox did their job and took 2 of three, so whatever, Im happy.

Yep. Two out of three isn't bad at all. If the Sox somehow maintained a 0.667 average for September, they'd be well on their way to another Word Series.

I'm more concerned about the Rays and Twins going on winning streaks; hopefully the Jays and As will prevail tonight.

Looks like the Rays just got that game back. Of more importance... what's up with Josh Beckett's elbow? He's apparently got an appointment to see Dr. Andrews.

Well Beckett had some tingling in the arm, along with numbness. Then, while trying to fix that, the elbow became inflamed slightly, so that pushed him back. After listening to Tito and Theo tonight, it seems that they are sending him to Dr. Andrew's just for a precaution, and to triple check that everything is okay. They will not sacrifice his arm, and the rest of his career, so they can get him back as quickly as possible. They want him ready and rested for the post season, where he kicks some serious ass.

Besides, the Red Sox, minus that little blip on the radar screen today, seem to be gelling just at the right time, and Lester, Dice K, Byrd and Wakefield are holding down the fort for the time being, and doing a very fine job at that. No reason to damage the team ace, just to catch a division lead. The WC would be fine enough, because once the post season starts, its a crapshoot anyway.

Agreed. The post-Manny Sox are a better club. If Beckett gets put on the DL (not at all a likely scenario right now), I wonder if they'll finally bring back Colon to fill in. I realize they put him on the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster, but he must be about ready to come back, no? The offense seems fine even without Drew and Lowell.

And nice to see the As beat the Twins to keep the Sox wild card lead at 2.5 games. The Sox should be able to do well during the homestand, even agains the ChiSox. The one concern are the remaining 40 games against the Jays. :wtf:

Why can`t los Mets ever have an easy 9th inning? After a very long 9th, Luis Ayala finally gets the save and Carlos Beltran has ended the Marlins playoff hopes. Its a beautiful thing watching Beltran when hes hot, and it looks like he is starting to warm up.

Well Dice K looked excellent tonight, and a nice 8-0 win tonight for the Sox, after the disappointment that was the last game of Yankee series, it was important to have a nice win tonight.

What the hell is with this yo-yo action with Max Sherzer this month?

He's with Tucson, gets called up to the Dbacks, gets sent down last Monday or Tuesday, and now he's back with the big club. WTF?

And the Sox win again. Even with a rookie pitcher, Lowell and Drew on the DL, and Youk and Crisp out sick, Pedroia carries the Sox to another spanking of the White Sox, now building the wild card lead to 3.5 games. :)
