MLB Chatter 2008

Well, he has thrown the ball well in many of his starts, he just makes too many mistakes. At the risk of sounding like Joe Morgan...he needs to be more consistent.
JKTim's ears are burning. Brace yourself. ;)

The Yanks pick up Pudge from the Tigers for Kyle Farnsworth. A strange trade I think. I mean the Yankees needed at catcher, but to give up Farnsworth, someone who was throwing well for them, seems odd.
Damn, Pudge went to the Evil Empire. :(

Well its a shell of the Pudge we used to know. I mean hell, he lost his job to Brandon Inge practically.

All I can say for the Sox right now, is WHAT THE FUCK....

I mean they can't do anything at all right now, pitching....hitting...defense...none of it is being done, at all. The top of the sixth tonight was HILARIOUS, I mean really, I was laughing it was so pathetic.

I mean really, this is just horrible, they are collapsing really fast right now, they really need to do something. Hopefully with the day off tomorrow, the team can reflect on this shit, Manny is traded, and they can just figure out what the hell is going on. I really think the Manny thing is effecting this team in a very negative way.

The Yankees are taking anyone at this point. I mean Richie Sexton?

Absolutely. He's being very selfish demanding all the "me" time. He should be happy he has those two gaudy rings courtesy of his time in Boston. I'm pretty tired of him and his prima donna antics right now.

Beckett crapped all over the mound tonight; he really hasn't been the same since his back injury. The mid-relievers are pathetic and the offense seems to be on vacation. I think the Sox should deal Manny for a good hitter and perhaps also a decent reliever. When Colon's back, the rotation needs to be tweaked. Buchholz is the weak link and should be converted to a reliever or busted down to the minors for a while. I also think cutting spring training short to play those exhibition games in Japan was a stupid idea.

The Sox need to put the brakes on this fast or they'll be out of the postseason.

Sweet.

What a great series!

Los Angeles really put it all together. Good pitching, good hitting, good defense (although the pitching was a little sketchy in game one).

I love seeing back to back sweeps of Boston. It really does my heart good.

Watch out New York. We're coming in hot!

Sincere question of the Red Sox fans here: Tim M, Scout, Servo, et al.

You've all heard the news stories of late about Manny being on the trading block. To be honest, I'm not sure which team - if any - is in a position to bring him in. However, assuming that a deal can be swing, do you think it improves or lessens your chances to get back to the World Series. The BoSox are too talented and experienced to miss the playoffs overall, I think. Plus, I seriously doubt they'll be happy with anything less than another World Series ring.

Manny's a heckuva talent. He can be a headache but less imho than a great many other players. So would you want him on the Sox the rest of the way? If not, what kind of a trade would you want to see that would maintain or improve your chances?

Who's the best team in baseball?

Let's ask a couple of experts: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson.

Sorry, I don't mean to be a bad sport. Just enjoying this little run while it lasts.

:)

Okay, so where the fuck do the Brewers get off doing that thing with the champagne (or whatever it was) to Corey Hart while he was holding his daughter in his arms? They were jumping all over him and spewing booze on him, all while he was holding the kid. Is that frakking tasteless and perhaps even dangerous, or what? :scream:

A little bit late aren't you there? That was a while ago.

As for Manny, its time to go. He has spoken and acted his way off the team, they just can't keep him. Its time for a change. He was worth his contract, he was a great hitter, but it comes a time where its enough, I mean just enough. If the Sox can get Jason Bay, a reliever, and a prospect or two, thats great for me. They can still make a run, they just need to regroup and get back together.

And 1001001, do enjoy the run. The Angels are a great team, with a great playing style. If the Sox are not to be the team to win it, I hope the Angels do. I have a great amount of respect for them.

Nice photoshopping.. I think. I seem to recall seeing Geddy being a big baseball fan and wearing a cap but I forget for what team. White Sox maybe?

Anyway... nicely done! :techman:

Definitely take that opportunity, because we've all seen how fortunes can change faster than a Santana fastball.

I only just heard about it now - I saw it on ESPN.

I'm not a big Rangers fan, but I've been going over their roster today (because of my fantasy team) and I noticed something quite interesting. Their overall hitting is for the most part the best in all of Majors and yet their pitching is the WORST. Seriously, their best starter has an ERA way over 4. That's just sad. And yet, they've managed to have a record a bit over .500, which is quite impressive considering.

Well we've always needed pitching, that's just a given. I"m pleased these days with Padilla, Feldman, and Wilson. Seems we can't hold on to a good pitcher when we get one though. last season Gagne was playing some of his best ball in Texas, and I won't go on about Ponson.

Speaking of which, did you know Ponson was spanish slang for fatass. Or something to that affect.

I've been laughing my ass off for most of the day at Ivan Rodriguez for Kyle Farnsworth.

On the surface that one does seem "uneven". I mean, Pudge helped the Marlins win one World Series and was a key factor in getting Detroit back to respectability, not to mention their own World Series appearance. Farnsworth OTOH.... seems to have been an average reliever, at best.

Tack that onto the trade the Yankees made with Pittsburgh, and they are solidly back in the race for the post-season.

My two cents: It's time for him to go. His whining about his contract is bullshit. 8 years ago, he was offered a huge deal (8yrs/160million), and the benefit to the club was that there were at least 2 option years at the end if it ended up being a good deal. Manny had no problem with the first part of the deal, and is basically just punking out of his two option years by threatening to lay down on the team if they pick them up. As part of those antics, he's been murder in the clubhouse lately, and seems to be dragging everyone else down with him. Just time to go.

Replacement depends on what they can get for him. Jason Bay could replace a good amount of it, plus is signed for next year. Rumor is also a RP in that deal too. Another one that could be decent for now, and the future, might be the Dodgers and Matt Kemp. Both of those deals replace a good chunk of Manny's bat, but also upgrade defense, which makes up for other areas. Won't be as good a hitter as Manny, but the other areas should help...

The 3-team deal to get Bay is what I keep hearing most often so far. My biggest concern is how it would affect team chemistry. On the surface, it seems as if it would improve it for the Red Sox. Do you agree?
