MLB Chatter 2008

Game over. The AL wins on a blown call by the home plate ump because Morneau was out. Scott Kazmir is the winning pitcher and there are alot of happy people in Tampa right now. This was a great game and I`m glad that Brad Lidge was the loser. Time for Dan Uggla to get his AL MVP trophy and go back to Florida.

Morneau was safe. It was close, but he was safe.

I still say he was out but it was a win win for me. Either the Philly blows it or Kazmir blows it and everybody forgets about Billy "Clutch" Wagner. Now that the All Star break is finally over, David and the Mets can travel out to Cinncy to extend their winning streak and Dan Uggla and the Marlins can fade away.

Ouch. Uggla now has the most errors for a single player in an All Star Game. Not something you want to be known for.

Those were three butt Uggly plays too.

Don't forget that he also managed to come up with runners in scoring position not once, but twice after regulation play ended and failed both times.

Bullshit. That throw was three feet up the first base line.

And Drew wins MVP, in a Sox uniform, in Yankee stadium!! Nice!

In front of a crowd of 10s

Who still all booed the guy that helped the AL team win the game, and possibly give the Yanks homefield advantage in the World Series. The epitome of class.

Notice something else? During the player introductions, the fans in the stadium managed to cheer for every player on both teams with the exception of three. Guess what all three had in common...

Way to show some class, Yankee fans.

BTW, did anyone else happen to notice Brad Lidge sleeping in the bullpen in that shot of him and Webb?

They know the Yankees won't make it to the World Series, and possibly even the playoffs.
It still lacks class.
They are Yankee fans, since when did they have class?
Touché.

Bad Ice, bad! You're not helping my cough!

Yeah, I remarked on that (when it was just one and two errors).

Yeah, although McCarver and Buck tried to point out that they were less harsh on Kevin Youkilis.

No, I missed that!

Let's look this from a couple ways.

First, can you guarantee me that no Yankee would ever ever get booed in Fenway?

Second, and most importantly, we're New Yorkers before we're Yankees fans. We're the toughest crowd you're gonna face, we're tough people. So, go ahead, say we have no class. Not gonna hurt our feelings.

Yeah, sorry, but as a Red Sox fan, I expected them to get booed, and frankly I would have been disappointed if they hadn't been.

nope, certainly can't say that. Then again, would have to have another All-Star game in Fenway before we can really say. Because when the Sox/Yankees are playing each other, it's one thing, but in theory, we were on the same team last night, right?

Yep, you're real tough guys, for sure. Threatening the pregnant wives of players and all...

The thing is, I don't remember Torre being booed as bad as Francona was during the 99 All-Star Game at Fenway. I know there was some booing, but honestly, there wasn't a total crowd effort like there was last night, and the Papelbon thing was just insane. Do it during the regular season, with the two teams playing each other. Its part of the rivalry, part of the fun, but the All-Star Game is a celebration of baseball, and it seemed the rivalry should have been put aside for a night in the best interests of the game. And the comments Papelbon made in no way were as "disrespectful" and "arrogant" as the NYC media made them out to be, he wanted to close, he would not be a competitor if he did not, but said many times that Rivera is the Godfather, the one everyone looks to for inspiration.

I donno, it just seemed that some of the pure Red Sox hate kinda ruined some of the charm last night.

It's not entirely their fault. After years of being on top, they've since been scarred by the 2004 collapse, and the Sox taking over the division. Hell, the Rays are even on the rise, so the Yanks are stuck with an aging, injured team in 3rd place. And because of the personalities involved, they can't even brand themselves as lovable losers. Just an aging beauty queen with her looks fading ;)

Will you Red Sox fans stop catching feelings over JD Drew getting booed in Yankee Stadium. Hes a Red Sox so he deserves it. If the game was getting played in Shea and Chase Utley won it, we would boo the hell out of him at 1am in the morning as well. Thats just the way things are and I`m sure Drew expected it and isn`t sweating it.

Hell, you Mets fans booed Utley during the freaking homerun derby. And then he told all of you to fuck off.:guffaw:

Well all that matters is the AL has homefield during the World Series, so hopefully we get a Red Sox vs. Cubs or Red Sox vs. Phillies series, since both of those I think would be interesting.

Bingo. Both of you nailed it right there.

Indeed that was a major overreaction on the Yankees fans' part.

I donno, it just seemed that some of the pure Red Sox hate kinda ruined some of the charm last night.
Nah, while I found it unclassy, I ignored it for the most part and enjoyed the game as a whole.

No, he doesn't for the reasons Scout and Tom Servo have already outlined. And for the record, I'm not a Red Sox fan (although I did support them during the 2004 ALCS), nor am I caught up in any of the team rivalries for the teams I am a fan of.

The only rivalry I ever get caught up in is college basketball's Duke/UNC and that's mostly on a playful level (good ol' fashioned smack was exchanged during high school, nothing more), but I would never do shit like this. If there was an All Star game for college basketball and both Duke and UNC players were on the team, I wouldn't boo the UNC players even if it was at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Yeah, the Duke Crazies would, but that doesn't make it anymore acceptable or classy. Just because the masses do it doesn't mean it's polite or should be accepted.

Yes, absolutely right, after a few years of not winning the World Series we're just horrible, you can call me after we suck for 80 years like you guys.
