MLB Chatter 2008

Put it in the books. Los Mets have won 9 straight as Big Mike Pelf went 8 strong innings and dominated the NL Champion Rockies, and before anybody brings up the fact that the Rox aren`t that good this year, Pelf outpitched Tim Linecum in his last start.

Normally, I`d be mad that the All Star Break is gonna come up because we are red hot, but Chase Utley and Dan Uggla are gonna be in the Home Run Derby so heres hoping they both mess up their swings. I`m just a tad ticked that Brandon Webb couldn`t beat the Phillies today cause I miss seeing Los Mets in first place.

*Hums Meet the Mets and watches sales of Pelfrey jerseys skyrocket*

Hey, don't blame Brandon Webb for that. He pitched seven solid innings, giving up only two runs. Chad Qualls is the person you want to send your ire towards.

Before you hitch your wagon to that horse, you might want to actually look at the Giants record. At 1.5 games ahead of the Rockies, the Giants aren't exactly easy to lose to.

Anybody want to nominate who you'd name for the mid-season awards, so to speak?
MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year?

Yeah, a lot can happen, but it's kind of fun looking at things so far...

I know the Giants suck, but Pelf beat Mr. All Star and probably CY Young Tim Linecum.

It's a miracle that Lincecum is where he is. The Giants have been giving their pitchers so little defensive and run support to their pitchers and Lincecum could easily be in the same shoes as Matt Cain.

AL MVP - Josh Hamilton (Does he count as a rookie with 90 games played last year? If so, then he's my AL Rookie of the Year)
NL MVP - I'd like Chipper Jones to win (if he stays healthy), but I'm betting it'll be either Lance Berkman or Chase Utley, depending on how the they finish.

AL Cy Young - Cliff Lee
NL Cy Young - Tim Lincecum

I'm not really certain who are the big rookies this year (other than the possibility for Hamilton). Can someone give me a few reminders?

Yeah, I almost nominated Saunders, but I felt like I was being biased since he's on my fantasy team .

But then so are Jones and Hamilton...

No kidding on Hamilton's story! That trade between the Rangers and the Reds is one of the very best for both parties coming out on top. A legitimate MVP candidate for a legitimate Cy Young candidate. Each team gets what they needed badly. Each player gets what they need.

And I will always give a cheer for a guy who cleans himself up and gets his life turned around. You could tell last year in Cincinnati he was headed up, because he was so sincerely thankful to get this chance they he could never have expected.

Holy crap, Josh Hamilton!

He put on an impressive show during the first round. I left the bar I was at when he first got up to bat, and 16 miles later, he was still banging them out of the park! I think he must have tired his pitcher out, because my boy Justin Morneau went on to win the home run derby.

Apparently, the guy Hamilton tapped to pitch to him was someone who has made a lifetime habit of helping kids. Not only that... this guy had been to Yankee Stadium only one other time - to see Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series! How cool is that?!?!

Clay Counsil was a beast last night!!

Even though he didn't win in the end, Josh Hamilton's performance is the stuff of legend and will be talked about for years to come.

Looks like Lincecum isn't going to be playing tonight. He's been hospitalized with something akin to the flu.

Yuck. :(

Brandon Webb said he probably won't pitch either considering he threw 108 pitches on Sunday.

I had the most fun I've had in weeks just watching Josh Hamilton hit balls out of the park on TV. That was pretty cool. I'm excited about the game tonight. I'll probably keep one eye on the TV and one eye on a book tonight.

Is there any place online to watch (or listen to) the All Star Game?

And who do you think will win, I will go with AL because the NL continues to suck overall. Plus the fact the AL hasn't lost in 10 years.
