MLB Chatter 2008

Rollins is the guy who really needs to get going - he had a nice game tonight, finally.

Phils should have won that last game vs. the Cardinals, too. Bruntlett misread a line drive and should have scored in the ninth, and then was called out a play later at the plate when it wasn't clear if Molina applied a tag. But obviously if Bruntlett doesn't screw up running the bases the play before it wouldn't have been an issue.

I was at the Phillies/ Sox game tonight....ugh. Timlin, I love the guy, but he needs to hang em soon. Bartolo too, not a good game, but whatever. Lester is going tomorrow, so I hope he does good. And JD Drew hitting the homerun to the horror of the Phillies fans made it worthwhile.

On a great side note. I was shopping at the Boarders book store in Center City Philly today, and I was in the DVD section, and the guy standing next to me taps on my shoulder ( I was wearing a Sox jersey). So I look up and he points to the guy next to him, and its Sean freaking Casey. It was awesome. I said hi, talked to him for a second, and let him shop. But it was an awesome experience.

It is just so wrong that you live in Philly and root for the wrong teams. They should tax you an extra 20% for everything just for that.

I hope Moyer does well tomorrow. There, that ought to cancel out your hopes for Lester.

Seeing the Phillies with 8-2 made it worthwhile for me :p

^ A press release at 3:15 in the morning is questionable timing I'd say.

The Mets are getting crucified for the way they handled it.

If you're gonna do it, can him before the 3000 mile flight.

Fuck the mickey mouse organization known as the NY Mets. Only a complete brunch of retards can screw up the most justified firing in the majors and turn Willie into a sympathic figure. Fuck them for the cowardly way they handled this and times like this make me feel ashamed to be a Met fan. This team is run by snakes and idiots and this move only shows how second class we are compared to the Yanks. At least Hal or Hank have the balls to fire a manager in the same room and not by email at 3 in the morning when hes in california. They also screwed this up by not firing Hojo too when this team`s offense is a joke. Now watch Omar the rat trade whats left in the minors and John Maine to get a vet on the downturn of his career to trade and make a playoff run.

If they were gonna can him, either do it during a long losing streak, or before the road trip.

They've just won 3 of 4 including one against first place Anaheim.

I wish they just pulled him aside on Sunday after the doubleheader and said, "Willie, you won't be making the trip with the team..."

The firing is at least partially justified, but the way they did it makes Willie look sympathetic and the Mets look cowardly. Not the spin they want I'm sure.

Wow, talk about stupid. I have no loyalty to Randolph one way or the other, but no manager deserves that kind of treatment.

I'm not a Met fan, but that pretty much sums up my feeling on the situation. What a lousy way to handle this situation from the Mets organization.

Another thing - why'd they can Peterson? The pen sucks but they got a bullpen coach right?

I thought he was some real guru. He's been around since the Art Howe days.

The starters haven't been bad. They've gotten no run support or the reliever's have blown leads.

Every single response to this firing that I've read has been the same. THe only difference seems to be the adjectives used to describe it: cowardly, shameful, ill-timed, and so on.

Has anybody read a one of them that defended the move's timing, by someone other than an employee of the Mets? General consensus seems to be that firing him was understandable, though many do disagree with at least that part. But nobody at all seems to be able to muster up even a weak defense of the way it was handled.

they screwed that one up big time. Fire him before they go on the trip, in daylight, and no one mentions the story again...
