MLB Chatter 2008

Maybe for the Flyers game they were shipping the Bruins back to Boston in a box? I don't know. It's a kickass song either way (I'm sure they only play it because it was in the Departed).

Well the Bruins won in OT anyway....:p

But yeah, I figure they figure it has that popularity because of The Departed. They never actually get to the "Shipping up to Boston", part of the song, just the intro. It's just strange to me, as a Boston fan, for all sports, to hear that song being played by other teams. Hell, when the The Departed soundtrack first came out, and that song was not as well known, I would listen to it thinking they have to get this song into Sox games somewhere.

The NL Cy Young and MVP beat the Phillies tonight on ESPN and the most amazing thing about the game is that Joe Morgan didn`t say anything really stupid. I didn`t hear any mention of the big red machine and they didn`t go overboard with the collapse talk.

As for the music at Shea, I didn`t even know that song was a Boston song. The only song, I pay attention to is Meet the Mets and I really wish they would play some Nas and LL Cool J, since those 2 are the most famous Queen`s musicians.

And the Sox continue to creep up on the Rays. :) This three-game homestand will be key.

I'm with you with Delgado, not with Santana. He's pitched well, but has too many no decisions from blown leads by the bullpen to have the numbers.

I'm glad the Mets salvaged one last night. 2 games up is much better than tied!

I'm also pulling for the Rays, they're a great story and it's nice to see Sox fans riled up.

Yeah, I was gonna say! Johan Santana isn't really even IN the running for Cy Young this year. His only glowing stat is ERA and two guys are better than his, one of whom also holds the strikeout title (so far).

I'm betting my last dollar on Lincecum for Cy Young in the NL this year.

Sadly, I think this is a series we can both live with. The Phillies take 2 out of 3 in Shea and reduce the game deficit instead of increasing it, but we're still 2 back and we didn't get the sweep. Like I said in the past, this will still be close. Last year I made nice joking predictions of Phillies sweeping the Mets and coming back from being ridiculously far down. Interestingly enough, they all came true. But I'm not going to do that this year. I'm trying to decide who has the easier schedule with the games left, but it honestly looks about even.

The Rays making the playoffs at least gives some variety to the playoffs (it's certainly something I hadn't expected before the season began).

I think their road trip last week was the biggest hurdle the Mets had left. They have another series with Philly I believe and 3 games with the Cubs. But after that they play the dregs of the NL East for a while I believe.

Johan is in it. He has pitched more innings and started more games then Linecum. He also has a better ERA and lower WHIP then Linecum since the all star break and unlike Brandon Webb, Johan wins the must win game. If Los Mets win the division Santana is gonna win the Cy Young because of the collapse last year.

EDIT: My bad the WHIP between the two of them is virtually identical. Johan is 1.07 and Tim is 1.05

No more Mets-Phils series left. You have the Cubs, we have the Brewers. Aside from that, I think you play the Nats more, while we play either the Braves or the Fish (can't remember which) more. It's a pretty similar schedule and it won't be decided head-to-head.

I'd love to see both teams get in somehow. A Mets-Phils NLCS would certainly be entertaining, and chippy.

Johan is not even in consideration.

The sports writers look at exactly three things when they vote for Cy Young.

1. Wins - This is the number one stat by far. Lincecum has 2 more wins than Santana. After tonight, probably 3 more.
2. ERA - Important but not nearly as important as Wins. Lincecum beats Santana here by a slim margin.
3. Strikeouts - Lincecum has Santana beat by a mile.

Oh, it would be an amazing game. Although I think open warfare would break out in Jersey as Phillies and Mets fans commute back and forth.

Open rioting at the rest areas along the Jersey Turnpike? Sounds like fun!

Nothing would be better then seeing open warfare in the streets of NJ and Met fans taking over CBP. It would probably be cheaper for most Met fans to go to a playoff game in Philly then at Shea.

But you forgot the playoff factor. Johan is on a playoff team while the Giants are fighting for 4th place. MVPs and CY Youngs don`t usually come from last place teams unless your putting up Arod numbers.

If Tim wins the CY Young, I`ll be happy cause he is my favorite non-Met but I think the playoff factor will push Santana over the edge as Webb has dropped out from the race.

^ How is it that the Angels have always had the Yanks number? NY is down this year but even when they were contenders the Angels owned them.
