MLB 2024: Baseball is for Everyone (subject to local blackout restrictions)

I've decided if I ever develop a stomach ulcer, I'm going to name it Aroldis Chapman. Jesus fucking Christ, that ninth inning just now. :( :brickwall:

The Pirates had been ahead 4-2, then the Nats tied it in the 7th. They come back in the 8th and make it 6-4, but then in the top of the 9th, Washington gets four runs off of Chapman. :wah:

White Sox starting pitcher Chris Flexen has set a modern era record -- his team has lost 20 straight of his starts (Bob Groom and the Washington Nationals set the previous record of 19 in 1909). The day before, the White Sox also set the single-season record of getting swept in three-or-more game series at 20.

They are on pace to finish 36-126, which would be second worst all-time behind the Cleveland Spiders of 1899 who went 20-134. The 1962 Mets have the worst modern era record at 40-120.

Also, worst losing streaks in 2024:

21 games: White Sox
14 games: White Sox
10 games: White Sox (currently)

And even if you subtract those 45 losses, they would still have the worst winning percentage in baseball.
The 2003 Tigers have the worst (current) record in 162 games at 43-119. The 1962 Mets had a worse winning %, but how did they only play 160 games?

I think the White Schlox may also have the record for number of times being shut out. They had the early season record for that.

If I had to guess, they were rained out games that they weren't able to make up. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia only played 161 games that season, and Houston also played 160. Since none of those teams were in contention, (Pittsburgh had the best record of the teams I mentioned, and they were 8 games back of San Francisco), it didn't really matter that the games weren't played.

Yeah, considering that record, no reason to try for make-up games

Wade Boggs has prostate cancer. :(

Fuuuuuuck. :(

Good luck, Chicken Man. From one Omahan to another. You got this. My dad beat this scourge, and so will you.

On a much lighter note, I think it's really cool how Anthony Rizzo has got a standing ovation at Wrigley in every game this series. Cubs fans are legit. :techman:

Luis Arraez hasn't struck out in his last 120 plate appearances. He's only struck out three times since July 4.

Tigers lose combined no-hitter with two outs in the 9th against the Orioles, go on to win 1-0. The hit was a triple by Gunnar Henderson, so they were that close to the game getting tied.
