Kruk is probably best remembered as part of the 1993 Phillies team that went to the World Series. Kruk has always been a character; I remember him being a regular guest on that sports talk show Tom Arnold used to host, and he was always a hoot there.

I've been watching more Phillies games through the years and I think that is a great booth. I remember Kruk on ESPN and it wasn't all that great. He's more relaxed with McCarthy and it's fun to listen it.
 
Baseball fans, did you know that Roku (which is free) has been airing the first game of the day on Sundays?

Also, if you have Prime, they randomly have a "free MLB.TV" game. Sometimes there isn't a free game, sometimes there are more than one, but it's nice to have that option if you're not picky on which game you watch.

Randy Johnson vs Larry Walker in the 1997 ASG was just as epic. Randy was fearsome.
 
I've heard talk that the Mariners will indeed retire #51 twice - once for Ichiro, once for Big Unit.

IIRC, they're waiting for next year when Ichiro's due to make the HOF. Which will almost certainly be unanimous.
 
A federal judge granted FuboTV's motion for a preliminary injunction against the Venu Sports streaming service (ESPN, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery), which is ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNEWS, ABC, Fox, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network, TNT, TBS, truTV, ESPN+. Subscribers would have the ability to bundle the product with Disney+, Hulu and/or Max.

Of course, the bigger fish will always find a way, so I'm sure this is just a temporary speed bump.

However, considering the amount of sports and games that aren't included, Venu doesn't seem like a must-have for sports fans.

I just want a service which includes NHL and MLB and NFL Network together and a discount on ESPN+. A lot of these "bundles" now have become complicated and still pretty expensive ($17 a month seems pretty expensive to me, still).
 
Ever buy fitted baseball caps online? None of the stores here have what I'm looking for, but New Era quality control is terrible. I can try out two caps that say they're the same size at the store and they are most definitely not the same size.
 
I bought some from Hatland some years ago.

I HAVE to buy hats online because I have a huge head (I wear size 8 1/2); ballparks and sporting goods stores max out at 8.

And Hatland seems to have that same problem you described.I bought a Yankees cap and two Mets caps, all 8 1/2. But the Mets caps seem bigger than the Yankees cap (which fits very well).
 
Today's Yankees game is on Amazon only. This I don't understand. Is anyone going to be flocking to Amazon when this isn't a regular thing for them? How many people will even know to look there?

Apple games, every Friday. Roku game, every Sunday. Amazon Thursday night football. All MLS games on Apple TV. Meanwhile, this is a completely random event.
 
The Blue Jays never called Joey Votto up this season, so he officially retires. He was hoping to be called up for the series against the Reds.

Hall of Very Good player. I imagine he’ll have a place in the Reds Hall of Fame, shortly.

What a tone deaf organization.

Why couldn't he called up, even if only for this series? Promote the hell out of it as the Joey Votto series and do a bunch of events around one of the best Canadian players of all time. You can just imagine how the fans/country would celebrate and bring some meaning to this season of horrors.

Instead, we are stuck watching a horrible team, playing whatever players they find in the minors bin, needing to know if any of them could possibly be a diamond in the rough.

Wouldn't surprise me if true. The past several weeks have been frustrating in their ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
 
And they're replacing him with Dan Wilson, who has no professional coaching experience. Also, Edgar Martinez is joining the coaching staff. Probably scrambling to find jobs for Ken Griffey Jr., Jay Buhner, Joey Cora, Jeff Nelson and Norm Charlton.
 
I'm sorry to see him go because in interviews he came across as a genuinely nice person, but IMO he wasn't given the tools necessary to field a competitive team and I think he lacked the fire to motivate the players in the final push.
