Reason I ask is that I've been told that when they are playing in Sacramento, they will just be called "the A's". Not the Sacramento A's, just the A's.
Will they just have special away jerseys made with "Athletics" on them, like their home jerseys say?

Wendelstedt throws Boone out anyway. Boone protests that he never said anything, Wendelstedt says "I don't care".

Angel might. Joe "ho-ho" West definitely would have. Cowboy Joe was as confrontational as I've ever seen.

The White Schlox (3-19) have been shut out 8 times in 22 games now. 7 times in 19 games was the most in 123 years.

The 1908 Cardinals were shut out 33 times that season, so the Schlox have a good start on that record.

Someone in the media speculated that the commissioner doesn't care what happens to the A's, just as long as it happens so that he can announce the two expansion teams which will become his legacy. Can't expand as long as one current team's home is in turmoil.
 
Cubs make some moves: Smyly and Hendricks both to the IL, Garrett Cooper designated for assignment. Little, Wezneski, Mervis all called up.

He should be pushing Fisher to mend fences with Oakland, then. It's his best option, and would go a long way toward fixing the absolutely abysmal optics surrounding the whole situation, which also makes MLB as a whole look bad.

Hiding Hendricks on the IL won't help. Really not sure about DFA-ing Cooper in favor of Mervis. Mervis did exactly diddley squat last year. Little and Wesneski shouldn't have been sent down in the first place, especially in favor of what, Colten Brewer?
 
I kiiiiind of get the reasoning behind designating Cooper for assignment, he's, what, 33? 34? You've seen what he has to give, and that's pretty much league-average. But that's not to say I'm super in-favor of the call.

Hendricks has to go, simple as that. Cut him and eat the money. He is cooked.

I've been wondering with Hendricks basically imploding in the 3rd or 4th inning in many of his starts, if they shouldn't have tried him out of the pen.

Cody Bellinger acting like he needs glasses the last couple games. IDK how that wasn't 2 errors.

Hendricks' stuff doesn't work out of the pen. You aren't fooling anyone on an 87mph sinker that doesn't sink.

Assuming Kyle could maintain control for 1 or 2 innings, you don't think his stuff would be a change of pace type thing?

If his stuff had any movement, he could maybe slot as a one-inning middle reliever. But it's clear his shoulder is badly bothering him, because absolutely nothing--his sinker, his four-seamer, his curveball--has any movement to it at all. There's no deception on anything anymore, which is why hitters are just golfing on him.

It's a good thing that basically everyone in at AAA Iowa is an outfielder who's positionally blocked!

Edit: The Cubs are calling up Pete Crow-Armstrong, with Counsell saying that the point of his time in the majors isn't necessarily to get him at-bats.

Okay. Sure. That makes a ton of sense.

They need depth at the moment, especially with Suzuki still out. Probably gonna be a lot of Happ-Tauchman-Canario in the OF (Canario is better in RF than LF where he was Sunday and looked uncomfortable every time he made a play). Wisdom cam play RF here and there. PCA will likely be a defensive replacement in CF.

ETA: Tho PCA started today (Thursday) and got his first MLB hit, a 2 run bomba to make it 3-1 Cubs over Asstros.

"How could the Orioles break spring training without Jackson Holliday? He's ready to play!"

After calling him up two weeks into the season, the Orioles just sent Holliday and his .059 average back down.

I mean, Holliday is only 20 years old. I'm as happy as anyone that the O's are back to kicking ass and taking names in the AL East, but the way that some Orioles fans were expecting a kid with only 120 at-bats in AAA to be the Second Coming of Christ was beyond insane.

And Matt Holliday made his debut at 24, not 20, and had the added benefit of playing half his games in his rookie year at the launching pad known as Coors Field.
