The human vacuum cleaner, he and Boog Powell broke my heart in 1970. But respect, he was a wizard.

Tim Wakefield has brain cancer and his wife has pancreatic cancer, and Schilling blabbed it to everyone on his podcast.

Supposedly they never even told him about it but he found out anyway.

Apparently he heard about it second-hand from Doug Mirabelli and just blabbed about it on the podcast.

Schilling’s also been constantly retweeting anti-Semitic and racist shit all week, so airing someone’s cancer diagnosis without their consent is almost tame for him.

Meanwhile, the sky is blue, water is wet, and Angel Hernandez continues to be the shittiest umpire in the game. This time the dipshit called Bryce Harper's check swing a third strike (watch the video – it wasn't even close) in tonight's Phillies/Pirates game. Harper got pissed, was ejected, and tossed his batting helmet to the fans.

Umpires seemed awfully eager to order the tarp on the field at the Marlins/Mets game....I mean, couldn't they have waited one more half inning? Especially since this is the last week of the season!

I mean, what are the Mets supposed to do tomorrow? Play one game against the Marlins and one against the Phillies?

Per ESPN, eventually a kid in the tenth row got it and Harper signed it for him.

It's a player safety thing. Anyway, it's been more than six innings, so if the delay lasts much longer they'll just call it as a Marlins win. MLB is just reluctant to do so because there are postseason implications and whenever possible they like to let the full nine innings play.

What a flaming pile of shit. What could possibly go through ones mind to think it's okay to talk about that? In any scenario. Fuck him.

The umpire union must be strong to allow him to keep umpiring after such endlessly bad calls over the years. Everyone knows he's horrible and yet he's still out there.

Yeah, he got fucked. The 'rule' is so hazy even a blind mouse will call it.

It's not a matter of a strong union, as MLB doesn't control the hiring and firing of umpires (only assignments). The MLBUA (former the WUA) leadership is composed of some other notably awful umpires, such as Laz Diaz, and the union leadership doesn't sell out its rank and file.

They suspended the game. Picking it up again on Monday.

Looks like the game was just too close (the Marlins were only ahead by one run). And as you said, postseason implications.

Weather's not looking good for this weekend on the east coast. So there may be more games to make up...

Swing/no swing calls are such utter bullshit. No corner umpire can call those if they're close. They're just flipping a mental coin.

Either change the rule to where the bat must cross the foul line, or else put cameras directly over HP and dedicate a small corner of the scoreboard in every park to it.

Don't they only make those in X-Small?

Phillies at Mets postponed. Double header tomorrow, assuming weather clears up. This could get crowded and messy at the end. Although the Phillies are locked in their position, so maybe they could have games canceled if necessary.
