Starlin Castro gets a 30 game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's policy on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. The Nats said they will release him upon the end of the suspension.

So, how TF is Bauer still only on paid LOA? Is beating a sexual partner into unconsciousness more than once not in that definition?

Seriously! That was my first thought the moment I read Castro's instant suspension.

But there is one big difference between the two of them: Race.

Either (most likely) that or something about the charges against Bauer are different in a way I don't understand.

Hell, Addison Russell got 40 games without a single criminal charge, so who knows what Manfraud is going on.

I imagined we would keep Baez, or that any return would be too small. Where do they expect to put Baez anyway?

2B Nick Madrigal and RHP Codi Heuer is the return for Kimbrel. Do we need another 2B with Hoerner? Can one of them play SS? Cubs are up to their eyeballs in IF's, should be getting more starting pitching back than anything.

Madrigal is on a one year contract, so how is that a good deal, other than being cheap-shit? They better be planning to sign Bryant.

Baez and Trevor Williams (TW1 ;)) look to be on their way to the Mets

ETA: Chicago (may) receive outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, New York's first-round pick in the 2020 draft. One guy? He better be the second coming of somebody.

Are we surprised Kimbrel was traded to the White Sox? I love it!
And I hate it. Fucks over one of my fantasy baseball teams because I have Liam Hendriks.

It's a garbage deal because Madrigal just had season ending surgery last month. Blows my fucking mind.

Madrigal is only 24, so a good chance he comes back OK from hamstring surgery. The fact they took in anybody without some years on a contract is the mind-blower for me.

Maybe, maybe not. But it's still crazy to me that they traded a pitcher who is doing excellent right now (but might/probably not be that good for that much longer after this season) for someone who is out for the rest of the season and might be good when he comes back.

Dodgers look like they're already over that line at $237M, so maybe they just keep saying "fuck it" and at least re-sign Trea, if not Mad Max.

Depends of course on whether any of these guys have any contract left after this year. @Timby will no doubt know these details ;)

Mad Max is a free agent after this season, so he's strictly a rental. Trea Turner has one more year of arb eligibility before becoming a free agent in 2023.

And Bryant to the Giants. I just yelled "Son of a BITCH" so loud that it scared the shit out of my girlfriend and her dog looked at me as though I'd just been possessed by Satan.

FFS, at least keep ONE IF guy. If it wasn't gonna be Rizzo (the face of the franchise), then KB if you think you can sign him anyway.

Bryant was always going to go. The relationship between him and the team has been irreparably soured since 2017.

More on Theo Epstein, who was always nakedly brazen about manipulating Bryant's service time, and also taking regular potshots at him through the media.

The service time thing is hardly unique to the Cubs tho.

Any chance we re-sign any of these guys next year? Rizzo would be my guess if they did.

Hardly unique, but Bryant was very deeply hurt by the way the Cubs fucked with him.

Rizzo will come the cheapest, is very much on the wrong side of 30 with a rapidly slowing bat, and he was on the record as never wanting to leave Chicago, especially because his charity foundation is based in Chicago. He's the only one I'd possibly expect to sign. The Cubs will just talk a big game and plant some "we tried" stories about Bryant and Baez in the Tribune, since they've got their arm so far up Paul Sullivan's ass that Jed Hoyer could waggle a finger and make that shitbrick sing "Go, Cubs, Go" on command.
