Forgetting that for a moment, his head isn't even in the game lately. The baserunning blunders, the fielding blunders. It's worse than Starlin Castro's birdwatching and daydreaming episodes.

If Bote can get his shit together this time up, Russell can be relegated to garbage time, assuming the Cubs can ever get a decent lead in a game.

This would be an unpopular opinion if I still lived in the Chicago area, but the Cubs should have been sellers at the deadline. Javy Baez is riding a completely unsustainable BABIP and has a pathological addiction to swinging at pitches that are out in Barrington, and he strikes out at a rate that would make Jose Hernandez say, "Shit, dude, settle down." Schwarber has the same issue with an allergy to walks. They're wasting the prime of Bryant's career, and Rizzo is on the wrong side of 30 and is starting to get creaky. The window is rapidly closing without a hasty reload of the bullpen and the outfield, but Epstein is probably just going to fire Maddon after the season and then hire a red-ass like Girardi or a sycophant like Brian Bannister.

Edit: And then the Rickettses will plead poverty for another winter as an excuse for not making moves in the trade or free-agent market, despite the family owning about 90 percent of Wrigleyville and making money hand over fist.

Javy really has gone back to his worst habits swinging the bat, but as a right-hander those pitches would be out over the lake and he's trying to hit them to Barrington, or at least Evanston ;)

For Hoss, the .225 BA/.318 OBP is better than Javy's .281 BA/.313 OPB. Schwarber has taken 57 walks to Baez' 25 in almost a hundred fewer at bats. He's improving (some) where Javy is going south.

If it were just these two guys, there might be hope. Bryant has that long-ass swing that only works vs a power pitcher...sometimes. He needs to learn from Rizzo's example of hitting what you're given.

Heyward is going back to the un-clutch guy from the last few years.

Rizzo and Castellanos are the two best guys we have right now and they're on their own most games.

And all that is just on the offense.

The Cards finally lost a game, then the Cubs almost blow a 10-1 lead after hanging 9 earned on Syndergaard.

Then last night, Victor Caratini 4 - Mets 1. A sweep is a beautiful thing, especially on the road.

Now we gotta take care of the Brewers at Wrigley.

Tyler Skaggs' autopsy results have been released.

He died from choking on his own vomit; he had fentanyl, oxycodone and alcohol in his system.

Not happy to be right about this one.

    What a shame.

Same, but limited number of things for a young guy in great shape to die of. Not shocked at all, although sad.

Know it’s a nation wide problem, but Angels seem to have had more problems than most teams. Artifact of living in LA, or clubhouse/team leadership issue? Or just dumb luck?

I don't think it's really fair to blame the Angels. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of players at basically every level of professional sports (and collegiate, if we're being honest) who have a Dr. Feelgood they can call or text for a pill hookup, and addiction is a terrible disease.

And he’ll go home and celebrate with Kate Upton.

He must have done something really good in a past life...

So do the Cards...again. We lost 1.5 in the central to them yesterday.

Finally. The Nationals lost and the Braves were actually able to pick up a game in the standings. I feel like we were on a ten game stretch where both teams were just mowing everyone down. I wouldn’t want to deal with the Nats in the playoffs. They seem to be firing on all cylinders right now.

Not blaming them directly, just wondering if something in the clubhouse culture (or just being in LA area) is making that team have a worse run of it than others.

Jomboy Media channel on YT can be pretty funny at times. I think I was watching this game, or at least a replay of this dodo sprinting in from the bullpen. Realmuto isn't amused though.

Hoss really loves playing the Brewers and also Wrigley North. No juiced ball, but maybe a flat ball now.

Baseball's year of "keeping it in the family" continues. Miami's Brian Moran, in his MLB debut, strikes out his brother, the Pirates' Colin Moran.
