MLB 2017: The Yankees are dead, Yankees burn in hell

The 'home base' that the umps on the field call to, is staffed by umpires as well. So I guess that explains it.

As does the fact that the field umps put on those ridiculously huge headsets, which are obviously not necessary since any one of them could just pull out a cellphone and call.

Just open up SnapChat... "You see this s***? Whatta ya think? Lemme put some filters on it!"

Well, I don't buy the "waving his arms" argument you made; it's pretty clear that he briefly lost his footing on the wet dirt, and that's also when he went a little off-course, as well. But he also isn't in violation of Rule 5.09(b)(1), because he certainly didn't deviate more than three feet from his basepath.

The headsets are used because the replay technician's box has a hard-wired connection to New York. You don't want to rely on wireless communication in a stadium full of 40,000 people and 40,000 cell signals all fighting for bandwidth. Dropped calls are still a thing in 2017.

Okay, I'll give you that one. So let an ump go over to a laptop that's connected via Ethernet. FaceTime/Skype is still a thing in 2017. ;)

But if they did that, then the umpires couldn't be SEEN donning those big, scary, badass headsets, could they?

I imagine they're noise-canceling headsets (which are rather bulky when you get into genuinely good noise-proofing technology), which is rather important when you're trying to hold a conversation with someone and 40,000 people are talking and shouting and hooting and hollering all around you.

Edit: You do realize that the umpires don't choose their own gear, right? They're employees of MLB, which sets the standards for gear, equipment, etc.

The Royals are at 43 scoreless innings and counting. That's 4 straight games they've been shut out plus the last 7 ininngs on Thursday.

And that only ties the record.

I saw that last night, Jesus. This is a 2005 Royals-esque outage.

Home runs are up everywhere and that includes Chicago, where the Cubs on Wednesday night became the first team in major league history to have five players record at least 20 home runs in their age-25 season or younger.

Ian Happ, 23, went deep against the Pittsburgh Pirates to join Javier Baez (age 24), Kyle Schwarber (24), Willson Contreras (25) and Kris Bryant (25) in the exclusive club.

Add in Rizzo's 30 HR's and that's a lot of home runs. A shame they don't spread them out a little more so they could win more games. They come in big bunches.

And the Javy Baez show keeps on rolling. A great way to tie the game.

David Wright is having surgery to repair his rotator cuff.

In other LOLMETS news, Conforto is having shoulder surgery and TJ Rivera is getting Tommy John.

At what point do the Mets' medical staff get outright fired?

Another ex-Cub manager that you have to feel kinda sorry for because....because he was an ex-Cub manager.

R.I.P.

I feel more sorry for him because Steinbrenner treated him like absolute shit--far more than he did others, he just used Stick as an absolute punching bag for decades--and he never truly got the credit for that late-'90s Yankees team that he should have, as all the attention went to Brian Cashman, the wunderkind. Michael's reward was getting knocked around worse than Ike beat Tina.

As dreary as this season has been for the A's, at least they've a solid core of young players (Chapman, Olson, Pinder) who should be fun to watch... until they're all traded during the 2020 season.
