MLB 2017: The Yankees are dead, Yankees burn in hell

Meanwhile Wade Davis notches his 12th save in 12 chances after the first career Schwar-slam puts the Cubs in front.

And unless the rest of the bullpen gets its shit straightened out, Davis and Edwards are going to be crying for mercy by the middle of July.

Edit: Also, Pujols' 600th dinger was a grand slam.

Edit 2: Oh, shit, there were seven grand slams yesterday, that's a new record.

Plus Edinson Volquez pitched a no-hitter for Miami. A very busy day indeed.

Yesterday, Scooter Gennet went 5/5 with 4 HR's and 10RBI.

It's always the little known guy that has this type of game, isn't it?

This is one of the reasons I love the MLB app so much. I got a push notifications that he had 3 HR and I jumped on the app and he was up to bat and he hit a Home Run. Otherwise I would have missed it.

Mike Schmidt said that Odubel Herrera can't be a guy that the Phillies can build around. This is theoretically, possibly okay, but...

"Because of a couple of things. First of all, it’s a language barrier. Because of that, I think he can’t be a guy that would sort of sit in a circle with four, five American players and talk about the game. Or try and learn about the game or discuss the inner workings of the game. Or come over to a guy and say, 'Man, you gotta run that ball out.' Just can’t be — because of the language barrier — that kind of a player."

Oh, and he kept going:

“He’s more of a sort of, play the game, allow his exuberance for the game to kind of spread around the team. I think the fans love him. He’s not afraid to do things that sort of irk the other team if you will, and you know what that is. I probably would hate him if I played against him because of his antics on the field, but he’s not afraid. He’s not afraid to do that. He’s learning to play a really good center field. They haven’t figured out where he needs to hit in the batting order yet. To answer your question, those are the reasons that I don’t think you can build a team around him. Now, I truly think he can hit second or first on a championship team. There’s no question about that.”

Language barrier and on-field antics. I mean, it's a good thing Ichiro can speak fluent English, or else he would have fucking sucked in MLB -- oh, wait, right, he doesn't. Keep talking, Schmidt.

Edit: Uh, does Jerry Remy realize that baseball is played in a ton of countries that don't speak English?

Addison Russell is being investigated for domestic abuse.

God damn it.

Apparently a "close friend" of Russell's wife is the one who accused him and the CPD doesn't have an investigation ongoing (per the ESPN story).

There's a divorce in the works, so hopefully just BS on the part of the wife & her friend.

What the hell just happened with that "double play" in the Mets/Braves game?

Edit: ... And in today's first game, the Braves walk the bases loaded to get to Yoenis Cespedes, who then hits a grand slam. :guffaw:

What the hell were they thinking, anyway?

The Cubs' see-saw season continues. 4th straight loss after 4 straight wins and 2.5 behind the fu©king Brewers.

I have no doubt the Brewers will fade eventually, but still a little worried about the Cubs.

The NL central has become a garbage can, the Reds have a rotation made up of AAA chaff and are 3 games out.

I think last year's championship run broke Maddon. Just yesterday he was back to his dumbass "Oh, Schwarber can hit leadoff, no problem" bullshit.

Schwarber batting leadoff is far from the team's only problem. Hardly anyone is hitting, the bullpen disintegrated again yesterday, the starters have been iffy at best.

And all at the same time. They only scored one run yesterday, so the late bullpen meltdown didn't figure into the 9-1 loss since Butler gave up 3 long before Peña and Strop got in there.

Yankees really pounding the shit out of the O's this weekend...

Oh and Aaron Judge's first homer of the game was 495 FEET. It CLEARED THE BLEACHERS.

I feel like Arrieta is losing $5 million from his free-agent contract with every start.

As an O's fan, that's been some ugly, gruesome punishment. But, God damn, some of those young Yankees are going to be good for a long, long time.

I don't think I realized just how short Torreyes was until I saw Didi have to hoist him onto his shoulders just to give Judge a high-five.
