MLB 2017: The Yankees are dead, Yankees burn in hell

Billy Beane is reportedly getting frustrated in his trade talks with the Yankees for Sonny Gray, and is willing to pull him off the table until the fall / winter meetings to discuss a trade. Now that Tampa Bay has decided that Chris Archer is off the market, if Oakland pulls Gray that would leave Darvish as the only remaining marquee pitcher available. Of course, that being said, Oakland is still going to hold Gray from tomorrow's scheduled start in the event that New York or someone like the Dodgers or Astros steps up with a legitimate package.

Darvish's value might've taken a bit of a dump after giving up 10 earned against Miami.

I think Beane has made so many bad, or at least unbalanced, trades, most other teams aren't going to take him seriously now.

People have been saying that for fifteen-plus years, but there's always a Dan Duquette or an AJ Preller or a Dick Williams who's all too ready and willing to do something incredibly stupid.

Apparently Darvish was tipping his pitches badly last night--I haven't watched the footage yet but I'd believe it, he's got a 115 ERA+ on the season so he shouldn't be getting tarred and feathered like that--which probably won't affect his value too much.

Apparently, Beane is asking the Yankees for too much in return for Gray, which is why he hasn't been moved yet. I'm okay with the A's keeping Gray if they can't find a suitor, but I think Beane needs to be realistic about Gray's value. He's a number two or three starter, not a number one, so Beane's not going to get Torres or Frazier back in a trade. He might be able to get some combination of Fowler, Sheffield or Mateo, the last of whom is talented but has an attitude problem.

Gray's value isn't necessarily in how good he is (though he's certainly impressive) -- it's more that he's cost-controlled for a few more years. Teams are putting quite a bit of stock in cost certainty in the wake of the new CBA and all of its new luxury tax fuckery, which is why the market is hotter for Gray than it is for Darvish, and why the Cubs had to surrender a king's ransom to spring Quintana from the White Sox.

Well...that was bizarre. Beltre was being an ass, but was that really cause for ejection? :wtf:

That's the first time I've seen that (heard about it) and I thought that was funny. The ump has no sense of humor.

I wish the A's fans would stop taking him seriously. The A's are basically a minor league team for the rest of MLB at this point.

I'm liking the idea of moving the HOF induction ceremonies to the two days after the All-Star game. It's a perfect time to do it, as there aren't any games going on.

Few do.

For all the criticism Joe West gets, he is never boring. I think it's one of the reasons I kinda like him.

Once the poor suckers of Alameda County are forced to foot the bill for a shiny new stadium, all the pieces will be in place.

It'll stay that way until they stop playing in a stadium that literally overflows with shit. Their attendance is beyond pathetic and their ownership is cheap as hell.

It's really sad. I went to the game on July 3rd for my birthday and the atmosphere was a little depressing.

At this point, the A's are in such dire straits (stadium-wise) that it doesn't really matter WHO pays for a new ballpark. Just get it done already.

It'll certainly be easier now that the Raiders and Warriors are out.

After his on deck circle shenanigans, Adrian Beltre gets #3000 in his 7th straight year batting at or near .300.

He didn't "back in" to it the way some guys have.

They've been that for some time. Virtually every team has at least one player on its roster who was a key player on a recent A's team. Despite the proximity of the Giants, the A's have a strong fan base who will support a competitive team. Why ownership doesn't spend the money to keep key players is something I don't understand.

As an aside, I wouldn't mind seeing Cespedes back in the Bay Area, though not at his current salary. He's a very good player rather than a great one. I was surprised the Mets gave him as much money as they did, but this is the franchise that's still paying Bobby Bonilla every year.

Adrian Beltre is awesome, I'm happy for him. When he played for the Red Sox for one season back in 2010 I really wanted them to sign him long-term, but sadly that didn't happen. And honestly third base has been kind of a mess ever since then.

The dude really doesn't like having his head touched.

That's seriously one of my favorite player tics.

Well, no municipality should pay for it, but between San Jose and the area near the Coliseum, it's not like the team is hurting for real estate: It simply needs to get a deal done (or for the Giants to stop being cockmonsters).
