Mistake in Insignia in "Inside Man" episode

Hello

I was going through some of my voyager DVD collection and i watched some episodes just to get those good old memories back anyways i stumbled across this episode "Inside Man", I watched it and came across several scenes where Admiral Paris is involved in and when you look at his insignia rank he has THREE pips on each side of his collar as his rank but if I'm not mistaken three pips means Vice Admiral?? anyways i went back to look at other episodes he is in and he has clearly got FOUR pips on each side of his collar lol did they get it wrong in "Inside Man" ???

Keen eyes there ;)

I just did a quick check on Memory Alpha, and they had this to say about it:

In an error, Admiral Owen Paris is seen wearing a Vice Admiral's rank, not the 4 pips he was seen with in "Pathfinder".

So it looks like it was just a costuming error for this episode. No doubt someone will come up with a clever in-universe explanation tho ;)

Lol true and i looked up Owen Paris on memory alpha it says in background information that there might be a theory of him being demoted then promoted again lol i honestly thing it was a stupid costume design.

But also strange that not a lot of people on here have spotted that before because i was hoping to see loads of people replying to my thread but o well.

BTW i think i may have found more anomalies ;) that need explaining, i will post more threads about them.

These things happen. In "Rules of Engagement", Sisko only has 3 pips on his dress uniform, not 4.

Really?, I haven't noticed that before, I'm gonna go back and watch it to see it for my self, thanks for the info

There are quite a few rank mistakes all over Star Trek (though none more annoying to me than Valeris in TUC) but Admirals are often screwed up.

I know theres a site out there somewhere with a list of all the noted mistakes - though I can't remember the URL.

One could always argue that it's the heroes making the mistakes, not the costuming department. Sisko could easily have fumbled one of his pips that morning, nervous about the upcoming trial...

However, this can't be the case with Owen Paris, as the three or four pips are attached to a single square plate; if Paris dropped one of the four pips from the plate, the results would be very different from what we saw. And I rather doubt he keeps his older Vice Admiral plates in his drawer any more... OTOH, if he did, and accidentally put those on his collar that morning, who would have had the guts to correct him about it?

I think there have been more mistakes like this in Voyager. Wasn't it some problem with Tuvok in the early seasons too?

Yeah... Tuvok had Lt. Commander pins for half(ish) the first season despite being a Lieutenant. When they fixed him they gave Paris Lt. JG pins. Most likely so he was outranked by Tuvok.
