Mission Gamma collection?

Any chance of pocket doing a collection of Mission Gamma like they did for the first four books of the DS9-R? I'm holding off on buying the books if it'll be collected in one volume. Any news on this?

The first two books are being collected in the middle of 2008 in trade paperback form (like Twist of Faith) and will be called These Haunted Seas.

You're in luck. These Haunted Seas, slated for release this coming June, will unite the first two books of Mission: Gamma into one collection (only the first two, because both are quite long). I don't think we've heard if, when, where and with whom the latter two will be reprinted.

EDIT: Dammit. Too slow again.

The first two M:G novels are the equivalent of five ST novels of the old standard length.

Thanks for the feedback. I've only now started to read the DS9-R. I'd been watching DS9 for the first time on dvd. Just finished the series.

You are in for a treat, great characters, great story, pace and old/new faces.Cmdr.Elias Vaughn has leapt to the top of my favourite character list.

Agreed. While New Frontier got me seriously into TrekLit, The DS9 Relaunch made me see just how awesome it could be. Not a knock on NF, but the depth of the DS9-R regarding plot and characters got me hooked.

My only caveat was that my interest sort of fell off during the Worlds of DS9 volumes, though I can't quite put my finger on why. It took 2 1/2 years to finish volume 1 (mostly getting through "The Lotus Flower"), but after that I was at a decent reading pace with the rest of the series (inbetween my other books).

I read "Andor: Paradigm" first, but I'm biased and was also lucky enough to be sent an advance copy. ;) Read it twice in a very short time, the second time taking copious notes for my Andorian web pages.

But yeah, "The Lotus Flower" didn't do much for me.

^Me either. The Lotus Flower was probably my least favorite part of the DS9 Relaunch.

On the other hand, I found The Lotus Flower to be easily the best of the six Worlds novels, and it's running neck-and-neck with Abyss for my favorite post-finale story overall. Just goes to show how the fiction serves all kinds.

^ I agree. While the Ferenguinar story was my favourite, The Lotus Flower was, I felt, one of the strongest of the set. Better-paced than Andor or Bajor, more soundly plotted than Trill or the Dominion.

^ Damn, diversity of thought all around. I thought The Dominion was best of the 6 with Ferenginar and Bajor very close behind. Cardassia was just ok. Andor and Trill were by far the worst. Trill was absolutely horrible IMO.

unfortunately, i started with Avatar Book I. I didnt realize there were other books set between WYLB and Avatar. I went to the wipidiea trek site to see all the books that have come out so far. Although, Avatar has been reading very much like a season premiere. I kinda got spoiled that Unity features the return of Sisko.

^ Why is that "unfortunate"? Avatar Book 1 is supposed to be the starting point....

I agree with Mister Moody. Somewhat. Other than that he's forgotten that Twilight is clearly the greatest novel in the relaunch.

My favorite was probably The Dominion too, but from that point on we differ, Andor and Ferenginar would be next, then Bajor, then (as stated above) Cardassia was my least favorite. I'm actually kinda suprised that the opionions are so diverse, because it seems to me that usually most people opinions, while differing somewhat, are usually fairly similiar when it comes to the quality of these kinds of books.

Hmm, according to memory-alpha.org, The Lives of Dax, The Left Hand of Destiny and A Stitch in time all take place before Avatar. That's why I didnt think I started with the first book.

While both The Lives of Dax and A Stitch in Time are considered part of the so-called "relaunch," they were developed independently of it -- the former back in 1999 as a separate trade paperback anthology, the latter as what turned out to be the last of the numbered DS9 novels -- and folded into the continuity after the fact. As for The Left Hand of Destiny Books 1-2, while they do technically take place prior to Avatar, they were released two years later, in 2003 after Rising Son, and were intended to be read then. :)

So reading Avatar first is just peachy. There's nothing wrong with going back and reading those other four out of sequence.

Re: "The Lotus Flower"- the funny thing is that I loved the prose. But the plot... don't know, didn't draw me in, probably.

"Fragments and Omens" was a story that I had mixed feelings about as well.

I loved the little scenes like with with Vaughn (one of my favorite Lit characters) and his physical, and Ro breaking up with Quark. The Jake storyline was okay, but I was surprised when he actually got married.

But the foreshadowing... considering the current pace of DS9-R fiction, I'll probably have to go back and re-read parts of this one to fully appreciate the overall picture in a few years.

I really liked the rest of the stories. Of particular note is "Satisfaction is Not Guaranteed," because Ferengi stories were my least favorite during DS9's TV run, and here was one I actually liked.
