Missing Denny Crane

I miss it too. It's on my all-time personal top ten list. They dealt with some serious subjects, had some brilliant humour and some off the wall absurdity.

I'd say this show, more than any other, had me pausing, rewinding and re-watching because I'd be laughing too hard to follow what came next. I can't tell you how many times I re-watched the scene with Brad swinging that axe at the church door. :D

I loved this show too.

I'm glad it got a good ending though. That's better than we can say for most shows these days.

This thing is freaking hilarious! If you look closely, there's an upside-down Starfleet insignia in with his other decorations. This thing again reminds me how much I absolutely love the Shat-man. Thanks very much for posting. :techman:

And yes, I miss the show too. I am personally just to the right of Atilla the Hun, myself, politically, but this show (like West Wing) did politics quite well without being too ham-handed about it.

In an episode of season 3 Denny is walking down the court's hall and all the reporters are around. Denny is being crazy and he says "I used to be a space ship captain. I can do anything! Denny Crane!" or something like that.

Denny's cellphone even makes the "tuck tuck tuck" sound when he opens it -like the communicator did on TOS.

There's also an episode (late Season 1, i think) where Denny and Alan are in a cabin at Nemo Bay. they're in bed and Alan is studying up for a case they've been asked to do while up there and he reads a portion of the book that says something like "[animal]'s natural enemy is a parasite called a Cling On."

Denny: "Did you say Klingon?"

The nods to TREK, or even us the viewers, were rampant on that show. Then I would come here and see Shatner being bashed by some for his acting and over-the-top antics...well..guess what, you anti-Shatnerites (of which there are many) he is, even to this day, the most popular actor/celebrity to come from STAR TREK...and that has been true for about 30+ years now....not nimoy, or any TNG era actor..NONE can compare to his Lordship!!! WILLIAM SHATNER!!

Too true! I think a lot of the bashing comes from a vast misunderstanding of his uniquely dry form of humor. I remember when a bunch of people got their noses out of joint when he said in one of his many interviews that he taught Nimoy everything he new about acting as his protege back in the 60's. Totally deadpan, as if it were complete fact.

It...was...a...JOKE! That's the way he makes his delivery, and I think it's brilliant! And don't even get me started on how the Star Wars fans freaked out about the Shatner Sings to George Lucas thing. "George...It's George, isn't it? May I call you George? You may call me Mr. Shatner." :guffaw::guffaw::lol::lol:

Shatner is more famous than George Lucas...Lucas is more wealthy, but Lucas could walk down the street and no one would recognize him...not Shatner

I do miss Alan's brilliant closing speeches. The writers had the guts to really go for the jugular on a wide variety of topics, and still kept it fresh, witty and intelligent. It was quite a counter-point to the base, raunchy silliness that was just rampant in the show. I loved the odd combination.

And, yes, Alan & Denny, as bizarre as they were, still somehow managed to have a believable, touching, meaningful male platonic friendship. You don't often see that on TV these days.
Me too. A lot of those speaches were really gutsy. I truly give the writers credit there for taking those risks.

Yep. :) Their friendship was made of win all the way... and for the most part classy.
