Missing 97 episodes. Animations/Reconstructions/etc? Which have what?

Queen Mab

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Hello,

I am planning to watch 'Doctor Who' from the beginning and would like to watch as much as possible first time.

Of the 97 episodes missing, can someone tell me what I should be looking for.
-Only Audio
-Audio and Stills or Clips or similar
-Animated Reconstruction.
-Other

Below, is the list of all missing episodes. Apparently at least audio exists for all episodes.
Can you neatly mark besides ones that have reconstructions or etc.

(Please, if making additions that no one else has mentioned, quote the previous person, then edit the quote, to that so the final comment is a complete list and any people who Google this thread in years to come can skip to the last post for answers.)

Many Thanks

If you go to Youtube, you can find at least Fan Reconstructions for all Stories with at least stills and audio.

Animated reconstructions are available for The Reign of Terror, The Tenth Planet, The Moonbase, The Ice Warriors, The Invasion. I don't have the complete list of ones which have stills or partial clips available. The audio portion exists for nearly all of them. The only exception, I think is Feast of Steven, a part in the Daleks Master Plan story, which doesn't exist at all anymore.

The Feast of Steven exists on audio, every episode does (along with a few 'in character' trailers).
It is though one of the episodes for which there are no telesnaps, so the recons have had to be more inventive visually than on those were there are telesnaps to use as a starting point.

To answer the OP...
The Reign of Terror, The Tenth Planet, The Moonbase, The Ice Warriors, The Invasion: all have official BBC-commissioned animated reconstructions available on licenced DVDs (five serials).
Telesnap-based reconstructions can be found online with a quick search for Marco Polo, The Crusade and every episode from The Savages to The Wheel in Space (13 serials).
Other recreations, using PR photos or amateur animation can be similarly found for Galaxy 4 through to Celestial Toymaker, and The Space Pirates (7 serials, or 6 if you count Mission to the Unknown as a tease for Masterplan).

There's also:

Planet of Giants, original third and fourth episodes. Both are lost, but are recreated on DVD by using existing footage, animation and other non-still visal techniques. Missing dialogue is provided by remaining original cast and soundalikes.

The original mounting of The Daleks' first episode is completely lost, save what was used as the reprise in the second episode.
