Missed episode format opportunities

What about one of those "everybody tells a short story" episodes, only not a flashback using prior footage (as in "Shades of Grey"), but rather new incidents instead?

Perhaps an away team could be accidentally transported to a parallel universe where everyone communicates through song.

Or for short stories/new incidents, possibly 12 or so songs about TOS tropes (dead reds, hammy Shatner faces, etc.)

"I'm a doctor, not a..." has to be included. Maybe others can pipe up about what they are not, too.

Let's be honest, a musical episode would never be possible under Rick "I Hate Music" Berman. It's only because he paid minimal attention to DS9 that they got away with Vic Fontaine.

How about a silent movie? Or Cecil B Demille, cast of thousands, Biblical/Ancient epic?

A "documentary" styled episode might have been interesting. A number other series have done it to good effect (M.A.S.H., The West Wing, Babylon 5, etc.).

Ooooh...that would have been perfect for something like "Duet".

Seinfeld did an entire episode of backwards scene progression...ending with some cute moments that took place before the series.
