So Misfits may be getting a US remake

Gossip Girl co-creator Josh Schwartz is planning to create a US remake of E4 British comedy-drama Misfits.

Schwartz's Fake Empire production company under Warner Bros has finalised the rights to the show, although no US networks are yet attached, reports New York Magazine.

UK Misfits creator Howard Overman will join the US version.

Overman will collaborate with Schwartz in writing a translation for the US audience. He also will serve as an executive producer.

It'll be interesting to see what could be made of it in the US, so I'm not going to prejudge it.

I am going to take a wild guess however, that they will completely chop its balls off and turn it into an insipid US network drama.

I wouldn't be surprised at that either. I guess seen as there's no network attached yet it's not necessarily likely to happen at all.

If it's not on HBO/Showtime/Starz then I wouldn't bother. The broadcast networks impose creative constraints that would just neuter a show like this.

I'm definitely skeptical of this. It does have the original showrunner, so it could be good, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up yet.

I'm looking forward to this.
I keep hearing good things about the show, but couldn't make it past episode 3. Sound enough premise with an infinite amount of possibilities. Just didn't like the execution.

If I make it past that for the American version, then it did its job as far as I'm concerned.

Kinda like the American Office in that respect. (Though I saw the IT Crowd pilot just recently with Joel McHale... ouch... )

I'll keep an open mind till I see the premiere episode (or at the very least, until I hear something about casting). But I'd really prefer a space opera series instead of an overworked premise like teenage mutants. At the very least, make them grownups. I've had my fill of sulky supernatural kiddies.

That's my attitude across the board. Anything on broadcast has ten strikes against it right away. But I'd include FX and AMC in the "acceptable channels" category. Between the two of them, they show most of the shows I like nowadays. Even TNT would be preferable to broadcast.

Praying for decent actors over just pretty ones.

I'm still of the mind that if the US would just fund British Programming and import it, we'd all be better off.

Does it have balls? Good show? I've been thinking about downloading it and getting in to it, is it worth it?

I like things that are the opposite of insipid US network dramas.

Well worth checking out if you get the chance, if you like British shows and humour it's great.

Please, for the love of God, no more American remakes of British shows! It has to stop. We already took Prime Suspect, Being Human, Free Agents, Shameless, Skins, and others. It's about time we come up with our own creative ideas of TV drama shows.

And the British took Maude, Candid Camera, The Price is Right, Good Times, Mad About You, Married With Children, Law and Order, Saturday Night Live, That 70s Show, and others.

This kind of cross-pollination isn't worth getting worked up over. Save that for your taxes.

Mad about You? Married with Children? Saturay Night Live? That 70's Show?

The British actually made remakes of these shows? What are their names?

Saturday Night Live wasn't really remade there was 2 shows similar Saturday Live and Friday Night Live. Mad about you (Loved by You) lasted 2 series on ITV and Married with Children (married for life)lasted one I think, and That 70s show (days like these) was cancelled in the first series. To be honest I had to look that up, I didn't know any of them about from Saturday Live.
