This week's contest is devoted to winter weather of any kind: snow, sleet, ice, rain, cold wind, clouds---any kind of "winter" weather, depicted in any way you like. However, there is NO MEDIA allowed (no tv shows, movies, comics or other works of fiction). Other than that, anything (work-safe) goes. ;)

Standard av rules apply: 200 x 200 pixels max, 1 MB max. The poll will go up on Tuesday or Wednesday (Jan. 2 or 3rd).

Being the crazy-cat lady I am, I have to go with something kitty-related:

Since it's three degrees outside, and there's a wind-chill factor inside my apartment, I'd rather go with something tropical-- but I'll go through my snowy pics and see what's good. :rommie:

Here's a couple from earlier this month, but I can't decide....

Avatar_Red_House.jpg

An oasis of red warmth in a frozen world?

Avatar_Squirrel.jpg

Or a squirrel foraging for a bite to eat in a snowy wilderness?

And it's real. As I recall, it was an ice flow in Minnesota. That's a lot of weight; I bet it damamged things I came across.

Looks like Frosty the Snowman's toilet backed up.

I took this picture about 45 minutes ago. The snow was coming down so heavily that you can't really see the houses up the street... it is basically just a white haze. The forested area behind the houses, you can't really see at all, except for a bit of a dark smudge.

Ugh, "wonderland" it is not!

My original intent was to make an avatar from this image:

ice_tree.jpg

I took this two winters ago. It was right after an ice storm, and the trees were all coated with a layer of ice... and the way the street lights were lighting up the trees was just simply breathtaking. I tried to capture it, but unfortunately, the photos do not do it justice, but you can sort of get an idea.

Unfortunately, when I scaled it down to 200 x 200... it pretty much just looked like a regular tree!

I was thinking a frozen version of The Blob.

It came out good. You can definitely see the picture elements fading into the blizzard.

Nice. It's definitely hard to capture the effect of the ice glaze after the storm. It's best if you can catch it in sunlight, so that it's sparkling like diamond, but in low light it never quite looks the same.
