Misc AV contest: Childhood Heroes.

My elementary school mind was blown when I heard "Magic Man"and "Barracuda" in the mid to late 70's. Until that time I had no idea that women could play hard rock every bit as well as men...and if we could do that, I guess we could do anything!

^ Good idea, but I'd advise against this particular av. Pippi was way too colorful to be represented via a b/w illustration. Personally, I'd go with an image from the Inger Nilsson movies, but that's just my childhood memories of Pippi.
Good point, but I deliberately chose an illustration from the book, being the original. Inger Nilsson was pretty good in the movies, but still a copy.

I first read the book when I was 4 or 5 and from then on wanted to become a pirate. I didn't quite manage, but I do work in the water and for the government. The latter is propably close enough to count as robbery :D

Probably the youngest person in this one right now.

Ron Ely who played Tarzan and Doc Savage on film and was the one time host of the Miss America Pageant

thanks :)
LOL there you see how old I am: for me, Tarzan is Johnny Weissmueller who played that character 4 years before Ron Ely was born. And Lex Barker, the next Tarzan, was pretty good too. A pity he died so young :(

I actually ended up staying another night on camp and haven't got the poll done yet, nor asked for final entrants.

So, I'll keep this open till around 20:00hrs GMT tomorrow and then I'll construct the poll.

Hope this is all ok for everyone.

thanks :)

I saw their films on TV as well. Probably soon after I discovered Ely's Tarzan. Ron Ely played Tarzan on TV in the 60s and there were a couple of movies made from two part episodes. I'm pretty old too, as I watched the show first run!

I can't even remember if I saw Ely or Weissmuller first, but it was the Weissmuller movies that stuck with me; I was always a big fan of the old movies on the local UHF stations.

thanks :)

Same here. I knew the av was Ron Ely but Weissmueller is the real Tarzan.
