As promised, here is the latest avatar contest.

The theme for which, if you didn't already know is Childhood Heroes.

You can use whomever you want, whether they are fictional or real, I'll also, allow Science Fiction characters for the shear fact that this is a Trek board and I'm sure a few people around here idolised someone from Trek or something else to do with Geek culture.

If you want to explain why they're your Childhood Hero, then that's cool, adding context to these things is always fun.

I'm actually away this weekend camping and back early evening on Tuesday, so I'll leave the entries open until noon on Wednesday GMT which is somewhen around 5am PST.

Normal rules regarding size apply.

Anyway, my entry is Sir Steven Redgrave. Now I'm not a rower, nor am I very sporty at all, but he was diagnosed with Diabetes about a year before I was and I've always considered him a hero because he demonstrates that Diabetes shouldn't stop you from doing what you want to do.

Before Brandon Routh, before Dean Cain, before Christopher Reeve, there was this guy.

For me, still the one and only Superman.

I'm a kid of the early nineties, so ...

I was really mad about Batman back then. I used to draw my own Batman comics series (with the pretty original title "The New Batman"), I loved the toys, the movies, the cartoon, eventually got into the comics, and I even planned on becoming a real Batman when I grew up (hey, I was ten).

I really didn't have a hero, growing up. But in seventh grade, "Raiders" came out and I saw it in the theater nine times. By high school, I was wearing a Fedora. So, I guess Indy counts as one of my "heroes."

This will be the easiest one ever. I'll whip up an avatar this afternoon.

Not sure what it says about me that I wanted to be an android when I grew up...

I learned to whistle because of that one bit on the holodeck with Riker, too. True story.

Although he wasn't exactly my first Doctor, he was the first one I got to know well. :)

What that says about you is that you have great taste in characters, and are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy younger than I am.

Astronauts. I picked John Glenn because I got to meet him a few years ago.

I am also a fan of Martin Luther King Jr., but he was already taken.

^^ Congrats. There's not many here who trump me. :rommie:

And, finally, here's my entry:

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a dramatic Kirby shot of him striding around the lab with his white lab coat over his uniform.

^ Good idea, but I'd advise against this particular av. Pippi was way too colorful to be represented via a b/w illustration. Personally, I'd go with an image from the Inger Nilsson movies, but that's just my childhood memories of Pippi.
