Mirrors Edge Demo

Yeah, I've got the PSN demo and just finished playing it a few minutes ago actually. The Xbox Live demo doesn't come out until the 31st - probably about 8 hours from the time I'm posting this.

Edit: I just checked PS3fanboy.com. There doesn't seem to have been a North American update of the PS Store yet. Bummer.

Edit: The PSN has just been updated for you N. Americans :)

well thats a bummer. Is it at least as awesome as i'm hoping it will be?

Overall: Yeah, I think it's pretty damn awesome. The presentation is immaculate, and the control setup is quite intuitive in most instances.

I had trouble in some sections of the tutorial where the game was a bit fussy about the exact timing of my button presses. For instance, it teaches you that when you're jumping onto a flat surface, you should press L2 before you hit the ground to do a slide, therefore not breaking your momentum. That's fine, but Faith's legs obscure your view and its very difficult to tell how far away you are from the ground, so you just squeeze L2 and hope you did it at exactly the right time. It took me at least a dozen attempts to get that to work, and in the end I'm pretty sure it was more luck than skill that caused me to do it right. Basically, you're trying to time a button press to a visual occurance that's mostly obscured from your view. There are a few other instances of this, as well - wall jumps can also be problematic.

But yeah, on the whole it was a lot of fun and very impressive. I'm just worried it might end up being too hard for folks like me who aren't really 'twitch' gamers.

I was expecting two things out of this demo: that it would be A) awesome and that B) I would hate playing it on a controller. Both my expectations were met. So I'm definitely going to wait for the PC release of the game, even if it means a few extra weeks of waiting.

I may download it again tomorrow on my 360... I'm more comfortable with the 360 controller then the PS3 one, so maybe that'll help. This shouldn't discourage anyone though, this is how I feel about all first person games on consoles :p

I thought the controls were fine. Running and turning is a bit stiff - but it should be. Have you tried changing directions whilst sprinting before? :D I think playing it on a PC with the same tools I'm using to write this post would make it seem like a chore. But then, that's how I feel about all PC games ;)

Actually the reason I don't like it is that I have a hard time doing subtle movements with controllers... for me, playing a first person game on a console is like trying to repair a watch while wearing oven mitts. But to each their own! :)

^ Actually, with the PS3 controller it's next to impossible to aim with that pistol you pick up. That isn't important - at least in the demo - since the game actively penalises you for carrying weapons. We'll see how it plays out in the main game, I guess...but apart from that I've got no problems with the 'steering.'

As for my earlier comments about some of the jumps and things being a little tricky to pull off, I just wanted to state that I seem to be getting a hell of a lot better at them. I think it's just a practice thing. I mean, I've played the demo several times now, so I should be getting better at it

I'd be playing it, but I'm back off to uni tomorrow so I'm not bothering to download it. The real game'll be out before I'm next with my PS3 so I'm just going to wait for that. Currently it's lined up to be my entertainment for Christmas morning.

We'll I've played it about a half dozen times now and it seems to be everything I was hoping it would be. Sucks that the demo is so short though :( Guess Ill have to pre-order and get that time attack mode thing lol.

Now the only question is should I get it for 360 or PS3.....

*goes to DL the 360 demo*

Hmmm this does indeed matter. Sort of surprising though, its usualy the 360 that gets the goodies while the PS3 is left out in the cold.

I quite enjoyed the demo. I still haven't decided whether or not I'm gonna buy the game though.

another disapointing demo. i had my reservations when i saw early videos and they were mostly confirmed. the game is okay when you know how to play through the level already, when you know everything coming up. when you dont know, the game is lots of trial and error...

i wasnt a fan of the combat, i think it was overly complicated and never felt fun. i'd have prefered a more puzzle like approach to the game (like portal) and not ever let the player fight enemies.

It was ok though I can imagine it being a frustrating game to play and I would only buy it later down the line at a much lower price. To be honest I think its about time 360 titles were released at lower prices (it would help boost console sales against SONY) because £40 is too much to pay though a few title are starting to come out at £35ish.

Demo was amazing. So intuitive once you get the hang of the controls. Can't wait to pick it up. This fall's been astounding!

I'm with Arrghman... the dual analog sucks donkey nuts. Specifically, the extremely, extremely slow turning. They have a 180 degree turn button but I think they need a 90 degree turn button as well. :p

That said, I'm amazed that Parkour works in first person. Assassin's Creed 2? Steal from this game!
