Miracle Day R1 DVD Announced

If they would produce an all new short featurette that told the story of Clyde and Rani having a fun, lighthearted adventure at one of the death camps and include it in the special features then I would definitely buy the DVD set.

AND, I loathed the stunt casting. Hey, we're bringing this person on... and now, they're dead. WTF?

Hey, alien invasions and government conspiracies are dangerous, what can I say? :rommie:

However Miracle Day was a relative flop in the ratings department in comparison to most of RTD's stuff, when it started off with nearly 7 million viewers in its opening episode and then after five episodes the viewer figures sunk to 4 million or so (I knew an acquaintance who got tired with the mini-series and stopped watching it).

The inconsistent ratings should've sent out a message to Davies (more so than online forum ravings).

Miracle Day seemed like about 5 episodes too long.

Though before Startz came in and provided some backing wasn't the Beeb thinking about doing a similiar number of episodes to CoE?

God, will anyone actually buy this? It's almost worth buying a copy so that someone who didn't see it the first time won't suffer. I really wish I'd like it, but it was quite possibly the worst thing RTD ever did.

Something like that. RTD originally mapped the story out as five parts, but Starz wanted ten.

Whil I have not seen any of it, I got a friend who watches anything Torchwood-related, and he liked Miracle Day well enough. So it really goes down to personal preference and opinions.

The lack of aliens got to me. I was thinking the Miracle was the work of aliens, then when the Families were introduced I thought maybe they were aliens. But no, the Families are mysterious enigmatic shadowy humans who made the world immortal by pouring Jack's blood into an anus. Or vagina. Or sphincter. Or whatever the hell that was.

You should see it. Then you can see for yourself it's a fact how bad it is.

:)

I've said it already but my main problem with Miracle Day was the story couldn't support 10 parts. There just seemed to be far too much padding. If there is another seires of Torchwood lets hope either

1.>It's a solo BBC thing
2.>If it's a series long story like CoE or MD, it is written for that number of episodes and not written as a 5 part story expanded into 10 parts

Though I think it might be an idea to go back to an episodic series next time. Or perhaps split it with one half set using the US cast and the other half the UK and they eventually team up in the final. Not that their couldn't be some crossover in the episodes. video calls, phone calls e-mails etc..

This is how I feel future seasons of Torchwood should be organized:

-If they want the season to be one storyline, limit it to five parts or so.

-If they want a season of 10 episodes or so, make those episodes stand alone with a lose arc running through them building up to the finale. Much like Doctor Who does with Bad Wolf and the like.

I'll be surprised if Torchwood gets another series. A bad first series, a so-so second series, a great five-part third series and then whatever the hell Miracle Day was (which was worse than the first series imo).

Miracle Day on DVD is probably the easiest pass I've ever made on a show I once liked. I'd get much more enjoyment and bang for my buck out of stuffing myself with coconut and banana cream pies and doing a Gilligan's Island marathon. And since I have the show and the pies I may do just that...

Just a heads up that although April 3 is the official release date for Miracle Day on DVD/BD in North America, I spotted it for sale at a Best Buy here in Alberta today (Mar 20). I didn't buy it because they didn't bother stocking the Blu-ray (and in fact they appear to have pulled most of their Doctor Who DVDs, period, which is a bit concerning, unless someone with deep pockets came in the last 3 days and bought everything but a copy of A Christmas Carol and The Android Invasion).

Not sure if it's a Canadian thing or Best Buy jumping the gun. Wal-Mart had an empty space and a price card set out out last week for both the DVD and BD, but they never actually brought them in last week.

I've never seen Wal-Mart carry and DW or TW DVDs in Ontario.

Future shop had a tonne of classic and new series DVDs and then when I went to look last week... nothing. Just some Series 5 and 6 sets with all the shelf space taken by other titles. So I guess Future Shop is done with classic DW.
