Million Dollar Password - Discussion Thread

I missed this tonight, but if it's a success, hopefully that'll mean more well-executed revivals of classic game shows. I'd love to see Match Game come back.

Me, too. Although they'll find some way to cram a time-oriented segment into it. ("Must make five matches in 60 seconds", or some kind of nonsense.)

And of course the WOOing audience, red/blue light show and over-the-top music stingers.

Mark Goodson and Bill Todman are spinning in their graves.

Didn't they have a sort of "lightning round" in the '90s revival of Match Game? (Which I've only seen a couple times on GSN and didn't even realize it existed until pretty recently!)

cardinal, TBS is doing a pilot for a revived Match Game, filming in late June, and geared towards late night. Frankly this worries me a bit. The game works best when the go near the line, but never cross it. If this is for late night, I fear they will, and it'll be like the '98 version, and not as appealing.

And a reminder, Million Dollar Password is on tonight at 8 ET/7 CT.

Betty White tonight! Yay crazy lady from Boston Legal (plus Golden Girls and The MTM Show...not to re-mention Alan Ludden)! I hope she kicks PASSWORD ass! :techman:

Calhoun: Wasn't the '70s Match Game a bit "oiled up"? IOW, the liquor flowed freely? I seem to recall that was part of why it worked.

A lot of game shows in the late 60's and early 70's would shoot five episodes per night and have dinner after the first three. And wine was usually served. That's why "Thursdays" and "Fridays" always seemed a bit looser. ;)

Tonight: GO BETTY!!!!

Okay, I'm about 13 mins in or so on the DVR...I SO LOVE Betty White!

National treasure is an inapt description, she's just THAT special!

Only Betty White could get "thermos" from "container" and "hot". Great to see her help the minister win some major bucks. You could tell her hearing isn't as acute, but she still pulled out some amazing clues and responses.

And I can't believe they use classic Password as a tiebreaker. At least they haven't abandoned it completely! :)

I actually like the classic Password format as a tiebreaker. In this version, it works. And That's where Betty really shined back then. But she was incredible here as well!

As for the 70's version of Match Game being oiled up, yeah it was. But then again, that's why it was so relaxed and fun to watch!

The first revival of Match Game was OK (I saw the last ep on YouTube), and the second was just plain bad.

I always thought the Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour was a bit odd.

Also, for the most part, I like the game show sets from the late 60's and 70's better, too.

I don't care so much about the Password music, but they'd BEST secure the rights to the '70s Match Game music for the update.

It's like the brown mustard. It's IMPORTANT.

Did you see the fairly ridiculous "Match Game" parody on SNL a couple weeks back (and replayed last Saturday)? They actually paid for the music, if not the name of the game and such!
