Miley Cyrus Needs College, Says Kellie Martin

Miley Cyrus seems desperate to make the transition from wholesome Disney princess to teen pop star. She has tried every trick in the book: sexy music video, scandalous photos purporting to show her not wearing any underwear, even kissing a girl during a performance. Unfortunately, the opening week sales of her new, more adult album Can’t Be Tamed were an underwhelming 103,000 copies, far less than the opening week of her previous album The Time of Our Lives. So what should 17-year-old Miley do now? Former child star Kellie Martin — best known for starring in the series ‘Life Goes On‘ and ‘Christy‘ and playing doomed intern Lucy Knight on ‘E.R‘ has some unexpected career advice for the starlet: go to school. Martin, who will appear on ‘Drop Dead Diva‘ July 11th and stars in the upcoming NBC movie ‘The Jensen Project’ told Fancast, “I would tell Miley to go to college. I really think that saved me. Fred [Savage] went to Stanford, Mayim [Bialik] went to UCLA, I went to Yale.” For the record, Bialik now has a PhD in neuroscience and a role as Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) new love interest on the red hot ‘Big Bang Theory.’ Savage moved behind the camera and is now a director and producer whose credits include ‘Party Down‘ and ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.’ None have been arrested, had compromising photos taken of them, or gone bankrupt. 1990s teen stars: smarter and more talented than you ever imagined.

Miley Cyrus Needs College, Says Kellie Martin

It seems to be working for the Olson twins. Things weren't going so well for a while there but once they went off to college we haven't heard much about them anymore, which is good for us and for them.

Why does the world care what Miley Cyrus does

Why do you care what the world cares about? Technically we're all strangers here, so why would it concern you with what people concern themselves?

Isn't Miley supposed to be one of the better-adjusted teen stars?
Is there a market for that?

Only until they're 13. Then it's a race to see how fast they can shed the clean and squeaky for the freak deaky.
Which is why it might be wise to follow Martin's advice. It's pretty rare that the people who were her fans when she was 13 and they were probably younger are going to be interested five years later. They've moved on. The "all grown up" antics have little chance of working on them. Take the time off, go to school and then see if you can have a career as an adult. Or become a tabloid head line for the rest of your life.

I agree. Going to college would be a smart way to proceed, because when it comes to stardom, the future is always uncertain. What is hot and it now becomes old and stale tomorrow. Having something to fall back on is just the wise thing to do.

"Who cares" posts are pretty much the most useless kind of post, and if you don't care why post anything at all?

Listen, I don't care either, but the chick makes tens of millions of dollars and gets her name and face plastered all over the place, so someone does.

I think she's well beyond that point, her personal worth (as I mentioned above) is in the tens of millions of dollars. Her company is worth more than a billion. She have to literally go insane to blow through that much money. She needs to go to school to get some perspective and a bit of grounding in reality, not necessarily for income. Having said that, something like a BBA would probably serve her well in her life given the business she's involved in.

Supposedly, she is, but Martin believes that she still needs an education anyway, and to be frank, if she wants to continue in music, she should study songwriting, musical training, management, and acting.

Or a pro athlete. :)

College is always a useful career interregnum - especially for a starlet wanting to become scarlet.

Until she started appearing in some revealing outfits she was... So was Britney Spears IIRC.

I was surprised and saddened to see her latest music video. I don't know why, it should have been obvious to me that this was where things were headed, but you always think, "this one will be different." Nope! That only turned out to be true for Mandy Moore, but even she had a little bit of a sexy stage.
