Microsoft's new "I'm a PC" ad

Still, they just try too hard to look effortless.

They'll just never be simple, hip or friendly. They're Microsoft.

--Ted

Their fake Hodgeman isn't bad.

And anyway, this is the ad I've had in my mind ALL along. Show that EVERYONE, rich or poor, hipster douchebag or average nerd, uses a PC.
Hell, they even had a Justin Long lookalike to say he wears jeans.

Is it too late? I dunno. But it's about time.

heh I like it. And as I implied in my old thread about the Mac ads, I thought Apple screwed up in casting Justin Long as the Mac & the endearingly dorky, cuddly average guy as the PC. PC comes off as likable(to me) where as Mac comes off as this smart-ass douchbag. But TJMO.

It's a fine ad. Clearly not going for the comedy aspect that the Apple ads go for, but that's fine. It's too bad, though, because I thought having Seinfeld on board had a lot of potential. Oh well.

It's a good ad, and it makes their point.

I do hope that Microsoft appreciates the "PC/Mac" ads, though - because those ads have, ironically, come to star Hodgeman as the PC. The audience doesn't give a fuck what the "Mac" guy has to say.

The problem is that whole "don't dignify them with a response" thing... which I think works for some cases. The moment you acknowledge the other group, you legitimize them. Of course, they really should have had their own branding marketing to run against the Mac ads but not directly address them.

While it isn't perfect, this is a much better response to Apple's brilliant ad campaign that's been ripping on Microsoft. This does a great job of reminding people that the everyman also uses a PC. I guess they are really feeling threatened by Apple in the consumer market or they wouldn't have spent this kind of money to counter them. Wonder what they're doing to try to win back their huge losses in the corporate market to Linux.

Yeah, Mac is there being a douchebag and asshole.

PC has some problem and/or some accomplishment he is proud of and here's Mac who smacks PC in the face with and it proclaims that he doesn't have that problem because he's HIM.

And, or course, PCs are serious business machines that are only done for spreadhsheets and serious stuff. NO ONE blogs, games, does 3D work or anything fun and "cool" on PC.

Nope.

All PCs can run is Spreadsheet.

Fuck-off Mac.

The vast majority of computer users are on PCs. What you're doing we have a word for it.

Compensating.

Pretty much. I prefer PCs over Macs, but I love those commercials just because of Hodgman.

So why should I uses a Windows machine? I still don't know why I should go out today and pick up a copy of Vista. All I've been told there is that a bunch of random people use PC, why should I care? It's not like you can't do all the same things on other OSs. I think everyone knows that the vast majority of PCs run Windows, they're not really saying anything we don't know there.

Apple keep saying they're better, so why is Microsoft not telling my why I should be using Vista not OS X?

I just love that one recent ad where he's dressed as a king, the way he says "I banish you. You are banished".
