Michelle Yeoh visits the writers

Do I spot palm trees in the background? Thought the production took place in Toronto.

It's being filmed in Toronto. I think it's just that assumption that makes most assume writing is happening there as well. From the set up process it's likely that the writers room has been based in LA, where most of the writing talent on board were based.

Curiously, Chris Obi posted about being in LA - and he's doing rehearsals/read throughs for Discovery

This just reinforces the conspiracy that all these writers have delayed filming just so they won't have to deal with our standard Canadian winter, i.e. a frozen wasteland compared to SoCal...

Rewrites need writers.
video conference from LA? One of the producers could also legally be a writer, and therefore able to incorporate script changes while shooting. Or you'd have one or two writers up with you. But bringing the whole writers group up to vancouver for 6 months?
Anyone familiar with the industry care to enlighten me?

Are you assuming that every script is finished and locked the day filming begins?

Sometimes this is true, but not often.

(Finished) Scripts can only be a few weeks ahead of filming by the end, which means the producers can have no idea what the series is going to look like when they are rolling film on the first day of production.

Besides, do you really want these writers writing episodes without meeting the actors, visiting the sets and playing with the props?

I don't know, i think that they may look calm and happy in the pick, because hey, its Yeoh, who wouldn't? but i bet there is a lot of pressure and anxiety, after all, another push back may give them a bit more time, but they will have to show progress now to the higher ups.

It's standard practice for the writers to be based in LA while the show is filmed elsewhere, in this case Toronto. For example, Battlestar Galactica was written by Ronald D. Moore and the writing staff in LA but the show was shot in Vancouver.

It's just Toronto, not Winnipeg. ;)

I said frozen wasteland. Temperature does not imply moisture. OTOH, I live in Calgary and it goes from winter wonderland to bone-dry desert every other week.

One thing does seem certain though - if Star Trek films on location at this time of year, we may actually have GENUINELY cold actors on a GENUINELY cold set, with actual water vapor being exhaled by actors! Take that, Shuttlepod One!

I might be wrong, but I thought they froze the set for Shuttlepod One? As in, the actors WERE working in cold temperatures?

That's exactly what I'm getting at. Compared to a sunny California soundstage, where the best they can manage is refrigerating a tiny shuttle set, the only thing they have to do to replicate an arctic clime up here in this month is OPEN THE DOOR. :)
