Alex Kingston played a character called pond and Bradley Walsh was in the British version.

Alex's L&O character was obviously named as a nod to DW....'Miranda Pond'...

No. Her first appearance as Miranda Pond was in February 2009. Karen Gillan hadn't even been cast yet, and wouldn't be until June 2009. And even then, the name Amy Pond wouldn't be revealed to the public until Fall 2009 with the character finally appearing for the first time in April 2010.

Really! That's cool to know. I've seen a few episodes of L&O:UK* but I had no idea the two franchises had that much in common.

*unfortunately only the first two seasons of L&O:UK are available on DVD in the US so I have no way of seeing any episodes beyond that.
