Michael Shanks is Hawkman

Smalleville is doing an episode featuring characters from the Justice Society (written by long time Justice Society writer Geoff Johns) in January and the casting was revealed today. Michael "Daniel Jackson" Shanks was cast as the winged warrior, who, as it happens, is the reincarnation of an ancient Egyptian who was exposed to Nth metal. Nth metal, native to the planet Thanagar can give the power of flight to those who possess it. It also reincarnates Prince Khufu and his lover Chay-era across the ages.

Hawkman's most recent incarnation was Carter Hall, who started out as an archeologist specializing in Egypt.

More details can be found here.

So this version of Hawkman is just Carter Hall, then, and not Katar Hol...?

Not that it's easy to keep all the versions of Hawkman distinct anyway.

I never really thought Shanks was a very good actor. My girlfriend will be excited though. She doesn't watch Smallville, but I'm sure she will that week.

Yeah, I don't watch Smallville either, but to see Michael Shanks might be worth watching.

Meh, I'll pass. Let me know when the cast the guy that plays Walter as the Green Lantern.

Interesting. I always thought the Golden Age version of Hawkman was better, and more unique than a winged alien cop. I liked the touch of the supernatural with the idea that he was reincarnated. -- RR
