Michael Jan Friedman

Saratoga NX-3842

Supreme Overlord of the Universe
So i just finished the Stargazer series and REALLY like Friedman's style. he's written so many books, i don't know what to read next.

So what's the best MJF book?

Well, I would not recommend Death In Winter or either of his entries in the Day Of Honor series. And his Captain's Table entry is pretty lame, too.

That's all I've read of his though. I've heard that TNG: Requiem is pretty solid.

Did you read Reunion as part of the Stargazer series? If not, that should be your next stop. Double Helix #6, co-written with Christie Golden, also acts as a sort of 'backdoor' Stargazer novel.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I have a soft spot for Crossover, mostly because of the whole scene where Scotty steals the Yorktown. It's pure fanwank, but I love it. :)

I'll throw in another vote for Requiem, and Starfleet: Year One, because it offers up an alternative take on 22nd century Trek, written as it was before Enterprise came along.

While I had some issues with McCoy in that book, I still liked it. And I could SO see Scotty steal a starship. :rommie:

Didn't he write Kahless too? I really liked that one.
:klingon:

Crossover is good, and Kahless is one of the best Klingon novels. (Pick the latter up in the The Hand of Kahless collection, which also has John M. Ford's The Final Reflection, which is the best Klingon novel.)

Legacy is a solid TOS story, as is Double, Double, but my favorite TOS story is probably his half of The Modala Imperative comic book, which is a 100% perfect second-season episode of TOS.

ETA: I am totally shamed that I forgot Shadows on the Sun, an excellent McCoy story. Mike's certainly done some solid work.

I thought that Double, Double was really good. It's a sequel to the TOS episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?".

Requiem was co-written with Kevin Ryan

Also, I think he was one of the 4 that wrote an early TOS book (Title escapes me).

His story in Shards and Shadows was an okay read as well.

The Valiant was good as was Progenitor.

Still waiting for a new Stargazer novel if indeed this series hasn't been "canceled".

"Reunion" is rather good.

Out of nostalgia too, I recommend "A Call To Darkness" and "Fortune's Light", and the early TNG comic stuff is good fun too.

Definitely the Day of Honor book! :) Shadows on the Sun, Legacy, Double, Double, Reunion...
I thinkk the TOS book he cowrote is The Disinherited.

I liked Planet X (the X-men crossover) but you really need to be a fan of both Trek and X-men to fully enjoy it!
