Michael Chabon interview

Chabon says all the right things. Hearing Far Beyond the Stars is one of his favorite episodes, while not really a surprise (since it's about being a writer, and one of the best episodes of Trek to boot) is yet another great sign that we'll be in for something special.

I watched both videos it's nice they have a long time Star trek fan working on Star Trek Picard.

This has nothing to do with anything but Michael Chabon would make a cool Sybok. I'm just throwing that out there because he's probably reading this. Seriously man, get them to let you be Sybok. Write it in.

One tidbit from the video is that Akiva Goldsman directed the final 2 episodes of the season. And there is a clip of the young Goldsman accepting his best screenplay Oscar.

Interesting choice of clips... Code of Honor?! And Miri??!!

Yeah, one would think they'd put in something less... random?

I still dislike this interview style where they litter background audio over the useless stuff such as the person doing the actual talking? It's like those websites that let you read for 90 seconds and then slap up a huge advert like what they showed in Futurama and Chappelle's Show, as if what's being talked about is so second rate they need to add background filler or something.

I think Chabon is going to be great. I loved the scripts he wrote for the 2 Short Treks, and looking forward to see what he does as Picard showrunner and writer. He also seems to be a big fan of TOS and DS9 as these videos show:

I'm hopeful as well. TOS and DS9 would be the best to find inspiration from, certainly!

Plus, he's sporting Ronald D Moore's hairdo, has partly receding hair and not a dissimilar facial pattern to mine, so if nothing else I've got ideas on a new hairstyle after 15 years of the same one... :D

He did the finale of Disco Season 1. Will You Take My Hand was easily the weakest episode of Discovery so far.

I don’t agree with that. Even so, do you think the weakness was due to direction? He also directed the 3rd episode of Discovery first season which was kind of a pilot episode.

I'm sorry. I should in imply he's incapable, just that he isn't always great. I thought that the pacing of Will You Take My Hand faltered, I did not care for the easy plot wrap-up and the neverending speech bit. There was this feeling, to me, anyway, that there were a few missteps at the tail end of season 1. I liked it tremendously just the same.

Rick Berman seems to think very highly of Chabon and the Picard writing staff. Here are some of his twitter posts:

Michael Chabon is one of America’s greatest writers. Having him involved with Star Trek is beyond amazing!

Watch @AkivaGoldsman’s A BEAUTIFUL MIND, and you’ll see an example of the amazing talent that has been brought to Star Trek.

Picard series should be incredible. Lots of first-class talent behind it.

Stewart, Spiner, Frakes, Ryan, Chabon, Goldsman....what else could we ask for? Im holding my breath. Watch!!

That's nice to see, but Berman is probably the person whose opinion of everyone matters the least to me.

I'd much rather see kind words from Ira Steven Behr, Ron D. Moore, Rene Echevarria, Robert Hewlett Wolf, Michael Taylor, etc.

Does anybody besides me watch Star Trek shows with a less than critical eye anymore?

I am so glad I never lost my apparently innate ability as a child to just 'enjoy' the entertainment I chose to watch without ripping it to shreds every time.

Yesterday when I rewatched T2, I realized that we never learn how the T-1000 can even function, how circuits and CPUs can be completely liquid and split into drops etc., but also how that didn't matter at all, cause it's too cool to even care about plausibility.

Back when CGI enhanced the show instead of being the show.
